As Parler was originally set up by a Russian couple (nothing to see here) in Vegas. As it started to gain some traction with the far right, a company that’s been linked back to the Mercer’s heavily bought into it. The Mercer’s being Trumps largest donors and also completely coincidentally they have a $6.8BN tax evasion case ongoing against them. The same Mercer’s who owned Cambridge Analytica who data mined FB and helped Trump win in 2016. The same Mercer’s who met with Farage and Wigmore at Trump Towers, them. Quite why they’d want to own a far right echo chamber platform that runs at a loss, is a complete mystery.

Almost a pattern developing there ...

Can you imagine a 'fit and proper' media ownership test along the lines of PL club ownership ? <laugh>

About 4/5ths of media would be shut down overnight.

I remember many years back I was travelling by car from California to Nevada. I got stopped by some state border control. It appears there are varying rules about everything from fruit to animals in state to state crossing. Not sure if ham sandwiches are on the list though. :cheesy:

Don't ever remember food being sanctioned, but firewood certainly was, as it often has bugs in it that can infest other plants and trees in neighbouring states.

SM companies hid behind ‘we’re just a wall’ for way too long, whilst I don’t think they should have to take the full effect of being classed as publishers, I do think there’s likely somewhere in between.

I think that's where it's going to have to change. Obvs SM platforms can't be entirely responsible for what other people post, but they need to tighten up their community standards and act more swiftly on hate speech etc. It will probably take some legislation along the lines of them being treated in similar ways to publishers, rather than that being the sole responsibility of the person posting.

Shows how weird things are now that we have to operate like normal countries.

I always thought food was banned from travelling, I'm fuming, I never once took food with me to Europe.

All those wasted years.

Fish could be a bit of a problem though, for a country with a fleet that exports 80% of it’s catch to Europe.

Not that the followers of the cult of Brexit ever gave a **** about fishermen. All that load of old pollocks was just something else for the hard of thinking to shout about.

Fisherman were in favour of Brexit weren’t they? They’re taking our waters.... oooo rrrrr

They seem to have voted overwhelmingly in favour of Leave, yes.

Partly, it would seem, because huge French and Spanish trawlers were hoovering up fish stocks just outside U.K. waters. Which they still will be, only now the U.K. government will have no say in how much EU fleets are allowed to catch.

You can't take anything apart from {approved) medication into NZ. Seriously. NOTHING. They come around with bags as you are due to land in Auckland and you have to put every item of food on your person into them. I think they'd give you colonic irrigation if they could.

Isn't Australia the same?

I can't believe they do it between states in the US like @brb said.

Google it online mate, California used to and may well still do for all I know, monitor the movement of fruit, veg and animals through it's state. It actually applies state to state, but I think California tends to be more vigorous with the rules.

I could imagine you lot actually if social media got regulated...

brb would have a list things passed by the regulator that could not be said or posted on this forum.

I reckon within a week most people in this section would be banned. <laugh>

Think before you wish for something. :)
I haven't read the whole of the thread yet, so I'll apologise in advance if this had already been said or covered.

This is social media. It's a public forum.
This is regulated. You bloody regulate it! <laugh> So do I, to some extent.
When you banned Matth, for example, you didn't silence him or take away his freedom of speech.
He moved to other platforms. Trump has a press briefing room in his ****ing house!

Even somewhere like this place has rules that you can't break.
He did it on twatter for years and got away with it because of who he was.
They've banned tons of people before for far, far less. Why should he be immune to it?

Freedom of speech does not mean freedom from consequences from what you say.
Post porn on here and you'll get booted. That's not oppression.

Good idea, I should apply to be a social media regulator, that will go down well with @Archers Road <whistle>

I'd bin Starmer off in my first week, actually i'd probably bin every politician off.
