The government has stated, "People are fed up with Parliament's failure to take a decision and the PM shares their frustration."

Parliament did take a decision, not once but twice, that the deal the PM came back with was not acceptable. The votes were not even close, but record breaking margins. Parliament also took the decision that the UK should not leave the EU without a deal, another quite clear vote. As the PM has said that this is the only deal, she should now take on board what Parliament has said, admit that she has failed, and not try to blame others. She needs to withdraw Article 50, and let us see where that takes us next. It could be to another vote in the country, or a general election, but to carry on trying to get this measure through, something deeply unpopular for different reasons depending on your viewpoint, is not what Parliament has said should happen. The longer she tries to cling to power by just being stubborn will not be in the interests of the country. It is not the failure of Parliament, but the failure of this government.

Actually, perhaps the EU has an opportunity here. If they refuse an extension - and there is absolutely nothing unreasonable in their so doing - then the ONLY course open to the govt - based on the votes in the H of C - is to withdraw Article 50. Of course that does assume the govt. is still capable of governing - not a given, based on their behaviour over the last 2 years. What else do you expect though from such a bunch of selfish self-interested people as the Tory party ?

The PM is doing exactly the right thing by limiting any extension to 3 months. This will ensure whatever happens the UK will leave the EU by June. The government has brought forward the plan for no deal, this is looking increasingly the most likely option.
Theresa May has reiterated the 2016 referendum result must be upheld, this is imperative to uphold our democratic system.

The only way to uphold what is left of Britain's tottering democratic system is to allow the British people a second vote on this. We have seen that the government thinks it perfectly ok. to require Parliament to vote several times on exactly the same issue, yet they don't allow the people to do the same. Democracy is an ongoing thing, not frozen in time, which means being able to change your mind, rather than being paralyzed by the result of one days voting nearly three years ago. There is nothing undemocratic in asking the people for a second opinion which is much closer to the event than the first one was - I'm sorry but anyone who does not understand the logic of that is either stupid (which I don't believe you are) or so blinded by the propaganda which they surround themselves with that there really is no hope.

Today we witnessed one of the most extraordinary days in the life of Parliament with a PM going to the house and saying that the crisis that the country finds itself in was none of her doing, but the fault of the MP's. She admitted that despite telling them over a hundred times that we would leave on the 29th of March, that she had now requested an extension to the end of June. She was attacked from every side of the chamber, with some of the most pointed questions coming from her own benches. Even at the time of the poll tax rebellion, I cannot remember a party being as split as the current Tory party is. Michael Foot was derided for the leadership of his party, but he looks statesman like compared to the current government ministers.
Corbyn asked the questions that people would like to know answers to, but received not a single insight as to what was going on, just personal attacks on him. It can be little wonder that so many are totally turned off by politics. And to hear a Tory MP saying this evening he was ashamed to be a member of the party shows just how low our democracy has fallen led by this bunch of political pygmies.

Sorry to come back on this Frenchie but if any Tory MPs are ashamed of being in their party then they should leave it and join the independent group, because one of the best ways of ending this mess of a government is to end its majority - talk alone about 'being ashamed' is not enough.

I agree cologne. But for an ex-cabinet Minister to say such a thing shows just how far this government has fallen.

Not at all, the ex minister in question knows he has annoyed his local party by his extreme behaviour and was likely to be deselected as their Tory candidate. He would do anything and say anything to thwart Brexit. He can join his small band of Tory oddballs in the new middle fringe group until he is sent packing at the next election. A crash course on democracy might straighten him out but sacked ex ministers are usually bitter about being rejected.

I am afraid that you are feeling bitter tonight, at least your comments suggest that. The local party consists of a small bunch of ageing oddballs who are out of touch with the modern world. He speaks with a degree of self control, some of his description of how this Tory party has led the country to the edge of ruin was very restrained. I would have found it very difficult to have been so reasonable as I do here sometimes. Just because your leader is unable to think clearly doesn't mean that others within the party are so pathetic. To try and say that none of this is my doing, attack MPs that she needs to get on her side, shows just how out of touch she is. You may well say that she is not your choice of leader, but when your little bunch of extremists tried to remove her they failed.

Looks to me like a rather large band....

This government is...
Indefensible...………….

EU not going to agree to the extension Mrs May wants?

How can she carry on - must have lost the confidence of so many MPs now.

Agreed.. But the tories can't throw her out as they had a vote of confidence in her last year! .. And they won't agree to labour demand for a GE.. Gridlock eh!
Just crazy !

It is all speculation at present, but it seems that the following sequence of events could happen.
She tries to bring her deal back to the Commons next week. Her speech last night seems to have hardened rather than softened some who could have voted for it. She loses for a third time, and could try to do nothing and just let the clock run down. It is possible that the EU would then agree to a long delay, which could be agreed to. This could have the UK stuck in the EU for an indefinite period, accepting all rules, paying into the budget, but having no say, and electing MEPs. This could bring about the PM resigning as she could hardly continue after what she has said, or it could split the cabinet seeing ministers resigning, and the government falling.
You can produce other possible outcomes, but we might get a bit to go on tonight. Well maybe!

No delay beyond 22/05 is now possible, as the UK will not hold MEP elections. The future, for all the businesesses in the Uk is chaotic. So much for taking back control ! The stupidity , brought about entirely by the Tory party trying to save itself, is breathtaking. A 3rd world dictatorship shows more respect for its people than this shower.
Can someone, ANYONE , arrange to revoke Article 50, and let us get on with rebuilding the country. Perhaps the Tory party could en masse decamp to NI. That might help.
