So here's a basic unpacking of this season's Greek Superleague that led to it all going a bit The Warriors (cribbed from r/soccer)
The Greek Superleague, which has been won by Olympiakos for the past 7 years, is now a tight race among AEK Athens, Olympiakos, and PAOK FC.
When PAOK hosted Olympiakos 2 matches ago, before the match had begun, a roll of paper (some say toilet paper, others say cashier receipt paper) was thrown from the PAOK stands and hit Olympiakos manager Oscar Garcia in the head. Some people claim that Garcia faked the injury. Olympiakos winger Kevin Mirallas provoked the crowd as players were taken off. The match was eventually cancelled and Olympiakos was awarded a 3-0 win and PAOK was to be docked 3 points for the event.
The week after that, Asteras Tripolis beat PAOK 3-2 with a winner in the 90+8 minute after PAOK equalized in the 90+7 minute. Meanwhile, Olympiakos drew 1-1 with rivals Panathinaikos in the first ever “derby of the eternal enemies” played without a crowd.
Then, on March 11th, the Greek FA went back on its decision and re-awarded PAOK the 3 points.
Finally, the events that you see in the video happened during yesterday’s match. Cape Verdean defender Fernando Varela was the one who scored the disallowed goal. PAOK president Ivan Savvidis was the one who walked on the pitch with the gun.
To my understanding, at the moment, no one is even completely sure of the result. Some sites have it marked as a 0-0 draw, but other sites claim that the referee went back on his decision to disallow the goal and hence PAOK won 1-0. The referee apparently ordered the players to come back on and finish the few minutes of added time left, but none of the players returned to the pitch.
