I won’t hold my breath waiting for UEFA to take action against Buffon for these comments..... <laugh>

But as far as the incident is concerned, I was watching with a few mates and we all agreed that it was a penalty (even if a bit soft) and Buffons behaviour towards Oliver was not acceptable.

Yes, he was wound up by the decision and may have genuinely thought there wasn’t a foul, but his reaction was well OTT bordering on a Public Order offence.
I’m no fan of Oliver, but no official should have to put up with that. What is also disgusting is the media response. We are not talking about a blatantly wrong decision with reasonable doubts cast about the refs competence or honesty - this was a totally understandable (and likely correct) decision.

Would have loved to see Madrid head out, but Juventus should be looking at themselves for not seeing the game out.
When they all went to harass the ref, it reminded me of the '' vertonghen incident'' at Wembley. Even if that should have been a penalty , the way the players surrounded the ref should also have been worthy of at least a yellow for one of their players.
Well done Oliver for correct decision making in this instance.

Translation: "A human being can't just 'knock out' a team after such a game with such a dubious scene: Instead of a heart he probably has a trash can. If you don't have the personality you should be in the stands with your wife eating fries, not reffing this game"

There's that fragile Juventus mentality, again.

Reactions: Spur of the Moment
I've just thought of a delicious scenario. Pool tank in the league to concentrate of CL. Chelsea nab 4th. Liverpool win cl. Arsenal win el. Chelsea are 4th but not in cl. Alright all our rivals are winning stuff. Chelsea get payback.

IIRC they changed that law the year after we suffered that fate.

Because although **** happens, it's only really meant to happen to Spurs.

They have, but if EL AND CL winners qualify from outside the top 4 they wont put 6 teams in the CL. It's changed that only Arsenal AND Liverpool winning would scupper 4th, in our day it only needed a CL win.

Only if Liverpool finish outside the top 4, at Chelsea's expense and Chelsea finish above us and we come in 4th....and the Gooners win the Europa thingy.

I'm not saying we couldn't do it, but you'd get some odds of that all coming in......might be worth £5 to buy me a new bike to cheer me up, should it happen

Yes. I was wondering about the irony of Chelsea coming 4th and missing out, thanks to Liverpool and Arsenal. I'd enjoy that.

I'm pleased with that draw. I could see Le Arse beating Atletico in a one-off game but across 2 legs and without Aubameyang I think they'll be too strong defensively. It also adds 2 gruelling fixtures to their end of season schedule. Wenger has openly said that he is prioritising the competition so here's to them getting knocked out on away goals and finishing 7th <cheers>

Again ...

while the scenario is possible, Spurs should be
pushing for at least 3rd place.

Chelsky finishing outside the top 4, and likewise
the Goons but without winning the EL, is bonus
material.

UEFA SFs ...

EL :

Marseille v Salzburg.
Arsenal v Atletico Madrid.

CL :

Bayern Munich v Real Madrid.
Liverpool v Roma.

The Goons being in next seasons' EL, but also having
to do the summer "Astra Googoo" tour too, especially
after a world cup, would have great comedy value.

I wouldn't discount anyone of them teams winning it, you're no mugs if you beat Barca 3-0 at home. Home leg for Roma is second. I expect a bit more resistance in the Away tie than Pep's I won't defend I'd rather get smashed attitude.

Having said that Pool can destroy most teams at Anfield(apart from Spurs)

They've only got the small order of United away inbetween the semi final legs. I can see them losing that. Their opponent after the 2nd leg? Burnley. Delicious.
