It appears, according to Nixon, that they can’t agree terms with Begovic. I won’t be unhappy if he doesn’t join. Mannion has looked good in the friendlies. He commands his area more than the other Keepers we have/had.

We are looking in poor shape. Not that I expected any different. It’s gonna be a long season that I do not expect Nathan Jones to survive unless we are top ten by Xmas.

I have not bought a season ticket but will attend when I can or feel up for some shared disappointment.

We are still so short at GK, defence is suspect, midfield needs a tweak and a front line could not penetrate a bubble.

what a joke.

Right on cue, Birmingham City have just Tweeted congratulating Alfie May on his 5 goals (so far) in pre season.

Once a natural goalscorer, always a natural goalscorer.

I think the sale of May will turn out to be the defining moment of our Summer. Just a hunch.

I wouldn’t say we are looking in poor shape. We were good enough to draw against Crystal Palace and we outplayed Pompey. We are workmanlike, we are lacking some flair. Mannion is looking good in goal but we need another keeper. But what we need is a playmaker who can weigh in with a number of goals.

I’m just not getting that feeling that we had with May gone

I agree. It’s a bit late to get that flare player though. I can’t see the attraction now in joining CAFC as a player when you look at what is being built is a single model as a hardworking side without frills . Well that side did not find a place for the league’s highest scorer? It all confuses me what ambition we have for this season as it does not seem to me to be a promotion achieving side.

I am usually wrong anyway and will get drunk on Friday nite and follow my tradition of sticking £100 on us to get promoted.

I agree about May, it just doesn’t make any sense. Unless May wanted to leave.despite scoring so many goals it was obvious that Jones didn’t fancy him. That is a big call from Jones.

Which player of old would you love to see in our current side?

A few of you guys have mentioned a lack of flair, so maybe a Claus Jensen-type pulling the strings in the middle of the park.

Or do we need a Super Clive more than anything?

How are we shaping up out wide? Shaun Newton was a fave of mine and would rip it up in League One.

I'll get along for the Orient match and run the rule over the class of 2024. Admittedly, I'm not exactly au fait with this current batch.

Mark Kinsella is just the sort of player we need.

In our current side we are crying out for a Claus Jensen.

A player with an extra touch of quality who can change a game with one moment of creativity.

It’s unlikely he’ll be first choice. Do you think that’s possible?
If he isn’t then it can be a long wait for a run in the team. Could be a good backup cos you never know.

I would expect him to be first choice. I don’t think Arsenal would let us have him if he wasn’t. But Mannion will start the season between the posts. Arsenal regard him highly as they have just given him a new four year deal.
