Nathan Jones wouldn’t have joined a piss pot L1 club without cast iron guarantees.
He'd been out of work for a while and the longer that went on the harder to get a top job. He came to us with a reputation to rebuild, and if he was given guarantees, they appear to have been far from cast-iron.

Jones hasn’t properly been backed this Summer. I think that’s beyond dispute now.

None of us know what promises were made to NJ with regard to financial backing. Fine to speculate but we don't know. Maybe he was lied to maybe not, none of us were privy to the discussions. But he's made it public knowledge that he wanted a full squad in place by the end of June, he wanted two new goalies, he didn't want loanees, he wants to sign Potts, Hylton and others although we are covered in their positions. You get the feeling that not everyone is pulling in the same direction, and for my money he's going the wrong way about pressuring the owners. Curbs always worked on a tight budget and a small squad and just "Got on with it" to use his own saying. It's not NJ's fault he inherited poor players who are difficult to shift but it's starting to look like it will take another summer get rid of them all.
The thing is the “ hard to shift “ are known to the other teams so the only option is they need to step down a league, along with wage expectations going down as well - then they may attract more interest ?

Problem is they won't get another team to overpay them like we do.

I have seen Dillon Phillips get a mention tonight from a fan who is respectable.

He is half way through a two year deal at Rotherham - his parents are big Charlton fans who used to follow him H&A.

He’s still a good age for a keeper (29) and was one of our best keepers in recent years.

I think Dillon Phillips would be a good shout.

Not even a vague rumour about a new signing before the season kicks off.

As things stand, I’d give our summer transfer window 5.5 /10.

It’s an upgrade on what Southall & Nimer delivered, on a par with a Tommy Two Sh1ts one, and not as good as Roland’s promotion season under Bowyer.

SE7’s SMT have bigged it up but not gone through with it. It’s still not too late.

Nathan Jones must have been having a laugh when he publicly thanked the investors after the Docherty signing - sweet FA in the 4 weeks since then .

(You can count the Jamaican kid, even the club have admitted he’s a punt).
