People are trying too hard to cling to the slim chance that there was any truth in the Mata swap rumour. The fact is that Mata is our best player; no manager, even Mourinho, is going to tear a top player out of a team just like that.
There may well be some truth in the idea that Mata is not necessarily a Mourinho player, but even then, as long as a player is effective on the field (which Mata clearly is), no manager would remove him. Rooney is wanted as a striker; a striker that can play football and thus link up with players like Mata, Hazard, De Bruyne etc. and not as a direct number 10 replacement. Mata is integral to Chelsea and will remain so. The only possible change is that he and Oscar will swap positions. I know Mourinho is keen on Mata (as one of our few accomplished left footed players) to be deployed on the right to cut in. That is the one possible change. Apart from that, United can jog on; Mata won't be going. You can have Mikel though.
