I've always been an advocate for Mikel and would also be sad to see him go but at Chelsea its called the Makélélé and everybody comes up short on that job.<ok>

The thing is, if we sign Higuain, we do a couple of things

    1. We get a good goalscoring striker

    2. We give Real the funds they want to go and sign Gareth Bale, thus pissing either (or both) Spurs and United off

    3. We make Wenger cry, "I did not see a thing except Chelsea stole my player"

    4. Luis Suarez probably joins Arsenal as Higuain is not available, we piss off Liverpool for making Suarez Arsenals only target

    5. Rooney stays put or joins Arsenal, we piss off United, who have an unhappy player in their squad

Wow this sounds like the best thing ever

The danger of course is that the Rooney thing drags on and on and we miss out. We've already seen about 10 very good / great forwards move this window. If Rooney isn't going to hand in a request we might as well move on...or be prepared to wait a year when United would surely sell.

Personally I'm hoping we don't sign Rooney and get either Suarez or Higuain instead. Rooney is a cracking player, but he's 28 soon and I wonder if he'll be able to sustain his fitness beyond another year or two. Also he seems to be one of those people who are pretty self absorbed, if it's all going well for him then fine, if it's not however then the toys get thrown out of the pram.

Talking of toys being thrown, have you guys banned HIAG yet ? <laugh>

    You'd miss him PISKIE. <laugh>

But re: Rooney, like you I'd much rather get Higuain or Suarez instead. Higuain is a better goalscorer and Suarez is a much better footballer and world class for me.

Pool or talent for top strikers is getting alarmingly small now. In fact, I can't think of any top drawer below 23 or below. Lukaku might actually end up being the best out and out striker of his age group by the time he he hits 25.

Like a ****ing hole in the head <laugh> Best that he keeps his brand of witless buffoonery to where it's they think it's funny, on the spuds board.

You're right to point out the pool of strikers is shrinking, especially now Jovetic, Negrado, Cavani have been snapped up. Personally I hope we smash our transfer record and go all out to get Suarez, he's the best out of the bunch imo.

God, I hope we don't sign Rooney. I mean how can you trust a player who wears his wife's minge on his head?

  10. If CFC buy Rooney, it'll be because Mourhino believes he's the missing link to whatever puzzle he's putting together, and I cannot see too many fans questioning his reasoning. Certainly, Mourhino doesn't seem to be keen on Suarez, because I'm sure that if he was, AFC wouldn't get a look in on him.

Perhaps Mourhino feels that Suarez carries too much baggage with him (as well as the remainder of a lengthy ban that he's carrying with him into the new season)? Whereas, whatever else anyone might say about Rooney, he works bloody hard for the team, and no one can doubt his absolute determination to win, which Mourhino will be impressed with.

Maybe it's self serving but I think a move to us could really reignite Rooney both for club and country. Just seems to have gone a little stale for him at United and with a brilliant man manager like Jose he could really go up a notch.

  12. Yes, I agree. I really don't mind him going to Chelsea, as I think it will improve his potential for England, in a year when we really do need him.

  20. Why does debate have to come at the cost of banter? Surely, the key thing is to get the balance right?

On the one hand, out-and-out personal abuse and foul-mouthed loutishness should be utterly eschewed, and perhaps constant banter, devoid of any footballing references, is something that, whilst not offensive in any strict sense, can become trying. However, surely any reasonably-minded and intelligent poster enjoys a good discussion that is mixed in with a healthy slice of banter? After all, Man cannot live on bread and water alone.

The problem with a certain type of poster (and we all know who they are), is that they attempt to drag every discussion down to the level of base tribalism, even to the point where there is no attempt to engage in any form of discussion, and the incursion into every thread is made with the intent simply to leave abusive comments to deride and belittle the intended target. I really cannot imagine that any decent person (which ever team or sport they may support) can find that kind of behaviour in the least bit entertaining or fulfilling.
