Don't get me wrong - I don't even remotely think this deal is going to happen.
Why?.. I like Giroud but it's insanely biased to even consider him a better option than Cavani. The guy is tall, quick, has a great goalscoring record and is technically phenomenal.
We would be a FAR better side with him in it. Besides you really think we should be starting the likes of Sanogo? He wouldn't get anywhere near our rivals squads.
Yeah I don't see how this could be a disaster either, even if you don't rate Cavani as better than Giroud (i think he is superior to Giroud by a good distance by the way). We are likely to see a line up like this but with Giroud instead of Cavani, so would that be a disaster too?
Don't think Vargas would have been a bad option but the whole scenario has agent bull cr*p written all over it. Seeing more rumours linking us with Manolas, Gustavo and Cavani though none of them are especially reliable sources.
Wenger plays the big man up top as our primary strategy. But I agree, Campbell should be given a go should we change our strategy or struggle to break down a side. Players like Campbell, Walcott and Sanchez will allow us a plan B/counter-attack.
I think it is more to with the physique and style of players. With this formation he likes a big target man hence Sanogo over Campbell or Sanchez up top. Plus Yaya was the most prepped player as he was the only st who didn't go to the WC. I think there is a definite space for playing a little man up top but maybe not aganist smaller teams who will be inclined to sit back and leave no space. Also Joel has no BPL experience so he was playing it safe i guess.
I had been happy with our signings but thinking about it I really can't believe Wenger isn't buying another striker. I'm not a Giroud hater but you can't go into a season with Sanogo as your second choice striker and hope to challenge for the league..
It is risky going into the season with a striker that isn't ready. But we should at least loan him out for half a season and see how he goes from there, and use one of the other guys as alternatives to Giroud. Who knows, he might adapt well if he goes out to another Prem club.
Don't get me wrong I agree, but when you think that we lost a keeper, RB, CB and offloaded two forward/striking options (Bendtner and Park, neither of which were good enough), we have bought 2 full backs, a keeper and a winger.
So we've mainly replaced players who have left, but we still have to replace TV5 and like you I still think we need a proper striker, Joel Campbell is returning from loan but given he's not kicked a ball for us before this season he is effectively a new signing and he might prove to be quality.
I get the feeling AW isn't against buying a striker but just doesn't want to spend the £30m or so it would take to snare a decent player, I think he hopes Sanchez, Walcott, Pod and Sanchez can either be converted into strikers or at least provide cover in the position
That side is too lightweight defensively. Very little bite in midfield. Playing Ramsey as the only defensive-minded player ahead of the back 4 limits his effectiveness tremendously.
One of the reasons for our big losses last year was that our midfield were simply overrun. This team looks to me like they would never get the ball.
I think you are only a couple of signings away from being in a position to realistically challenge for the title - the current squad is good, but you're behind Chelsea and Man City currently.
It would be a shame if Wenger, again, doesn't seize the opportunity and really go for it.........

Well if you look at the out going to in going players you have to think we have improved overall.
Ospina >= flappy (I've said equal as ospina seems a very good keeper but I haven't seen enough of him to say if he is definitely better than flappy, though i expect he is hence the >)
Debuchy >= Sagna (the French manager obviously thought he was better but some may argue otherwise)
Vermaelen I think we will replace so not sure whether it will be an improvement or not. Chambers will add extra depth across the back line.
Campbell > park (Campbell is a definite upgrade on park)
Sanchez > bendtner (Sanchez is clearly far superior to bendtner)
I think we've replaced out going players with equal or better quality across the park.
