Walcott has been one of our key players for the last couple of seasons. His link-up with Sagna/Rosicky/RVP got us lots of goals the season before last, and last season his 21 goals and 11 assists are great stats for a wing forward. Even 3 seasons ago despite not having the same consistency he has now he was performing well getting goals against Barca in the CL. Thats 3 seasons in double figures for goals, the most recent over 20.

His pace and finishing mean he is a lethal weapon on the counter attack and his overall game is constantly improving.

If he has another season like last he will be well on his way to becomming a top top player.

You think Walcott will get any more chances as a striker or was that experiment just to encourage him to sign the new contract?

I know most of us haven't seen much of Gustavo (including me), but he was `man of the match' for pretty much every game Brazil played in the Confed Cup (though official MOTM was always Neymar). So I'm completely sold on his ability to be our DM.

Class player, I'd love Chelsea to get him. Whoever does get him has a top DM on their hands though.

Transfer news: Arsene Wenger calls for calm over transfers - but claims current squad can compete for Premier League title

To be fair to Arsene, he isn't quoted in the article as saying the current squad can compete for the title. If he had said this however (and I know he's said similar things this summer), then to me a big reason why is encapsulated here:

“It is important to have a strong start and raise belief. Last season when we lost Robin van Persie we had a sceptical environment around the club. We need the crowd to be behind the team.”

Despite the frustrating transfer window we'd be wise to create a more positive atmosphere around the team. Negativity breeds negativity after all.
