And Walcott remains a very situational player still IMVHO, despite what his stats (concentrated in a pretty small number of games) might say. I said a couple of years ago that I never expect our team to challenge for a title if our squad depth and quality is at such level that Walcott is an almost guaranteed starter.

He is running at a goal or an assist in every PL game he starts, which is better than Mata, Hazard, or Suarez. He only started 24 games in the PL last season and was our top scorer. His assist and goal total was one better than Cazorla's who played 4 games more. So I would question your interpretation of the stats.
Walcott is still only 24. He's probably the quickest player in the league and 21 goals and 11 assist from a wide right position is pretty damn solid. Somewhat underrated he still has a very bright future.
Walcott has been one of our key players for the last couple of seasons. His link-up with Sagna/Rosicky/RVP got us lots of goals the season before last, and last season his 21 goals and 11 assists are great stats for a wing forward. Even 3 seasons ago despite not having the same consistency he has now he was performing well getting goals against Barca in the CL. Thats 3 seasons in double figures for goals, the most recent over 20. His pace and finishing mean he is a lethal weapon on the counter attack and his overall game is constantly improving. If he has another season like last he will be well on his way to becomming a top top player.

Headline is misleading - He never says they are "...good enough." This is good managing, he doesn't want the current squad to feel that they are ****.
I think you're right about managing squad morale but it also whiffs of the lowering of expectations concerning transfers that we've heard so many times before.
Definitely looks that way. Suarez has made his intentions clear, he wants out. Real don't look like they are going to bid for him because they want Monkey boy from the Spuds. It's going to go down to the wire, but I think we are in with a really good chance of signing Suarez.
At the end of the day, is there any Arsenal fan who really gives a **** whether we pay forty or fifty million ? Both prices are vastly over inflated, but we need to get our man. Otherwise unless we pull a rabbit out of a hat, this window is going to go down as a complete shambles
The problem though isn't us fans, it's the man running the show. We may not care about the difference between 40 and 50 million, Arsene Wenger does.
