Although I do agree that the transfer fees paid nowadays are ludicrous, this however won't help bring in the quality we need to challenge. Take Cazorla for example, in the current market, he is worth at least around £25m, we bought him for considerably less. We were frankly lucky with that one and I genuinely believe that not many clubs caught wind on how good this guy is. Had any of he top clubs picked up on this, then we would have missed out. Anyone who knows about La Liga would know how good Cazorla is. My friend who is an avid La Liga watcher and works part-time for Opta said to me that we got a great bargain on him and that he was a very good player. Low and behold, he was our best player all season. No surprise that he is our best player by some distance.

True. The thing is: Wenger is of the opinion that he can make 'superstars' and therefore huge money signings are waisteful. To some degree he is correct but what gets overlooked is the effect this has on the clubs overall 'status'.
A big money signing can raise a clubs status, attract press interest and raise the moral/optimism within the current team. In other words if it's the right player at the right time a big signing can be a very good business decision.
(Also a World Class addition can be an immediate fix to a squad inbalance/weakness. Whereas 'developing' players takes time.)
But you have to spend wisely - fill a area where the squad is weak and be certain the player you are after has the required quality. (Not an Andy Carroll) In Arsenal's case we have never gone over £20 Million for a player so our first big money signing will attract alot of media attention. Therefore we have to spend wisely. Any bad signing will harm Wenger's reputation.
Apart from Fabregas and Wilshere (getting there), how many times has he made players into superstars recently? The majority that have come in have already been established players or when they've left, have been exposed as overhyped. We've had to contend with some utter tripe recently just to fit in his budgetary ways. Whether he likes it or not, he will have to spend some serious cash to bring us up to the best 3 teams of the Premiership, to challenge.
I didn't like that you called people panicking women. The Emirates Cup is this weekend, the season starts in just over 2 weeks and the transfer window is closed in just over a month. We do not look like making any signings in the near future, on top of that we have not been linked to any players apart from Suarez. No goalkeeper, no replacement for out going players, no defensive cover, no defensive midfielder, no Cesc.
That would all be fine IF we have not been through all this before. Particularly the last 3 Summers where we have been promised so much and delivered so little. And to top it all off, we have been fed insulting comments from Wenger regarding the strength of the squad and have been told very disheartening news from a well respected journalist on the tension between Wenger and the board.
So to have a go at anybody who might be the slightest bit worried, based on all of the above, is extremely childish. That is why I disliked your comment.

It makes you wonder why the board were so quick to offer Wenger a new contract if they are upset over his supposed unwillingness to spend money.

We have continued to thin out the squad shifting all the deadwood which we have NOT done in previous years. Therefor the space in the squad and the money are both there.
I find it very hard to belive that the club would allow so many players to leave (and still be working on shipping out more ala bendtner, chamakh and gerv) without having some signings lined up. Just because they haven't leaked all the players we are interested in to the media does not mean we are not interested in signing anyone. Silly logic tbh.

Given how little (net) money has been spent in previous seasons, and the fact that for all the talk of £100m warchests you have spend -£2m so far, I don't think it's unreasonable to protest Wenger's attitude and actions.

It's a load of balls that's why. He is Arsenals cash cow, why would they be upset?
Well Robin Van Persie, Fabregas, Wilshere and I'm sure Nasri may have reached a high level under Wenger. Then there's Sczezney, Ramsey, Jenkinson and Chamberlain all capable of becoming TOP Class players.
The reason for that though - is that many of our most talented players have left us. (our own fault for not addressing squad weaknesses)
We're an attacking side and therefore lack REAL genuine quality upfront. A big signing is needed both for the squad and the fans.
Basically because his role is bigger than just a coach. Wenger is heavily involved in the whole scouting and negotiating processes. Probably too involved.
I think the balance is off. There is no one else at the club in the position to prioritise the football results. Wenger is the manager but he is sacrificing the best possible start in the league for the sake of his personal satisfaction of acting like a part-time accountant. Either he does it because of greed (his bonus is related to financial performance?) or his own ego, but either way he is not putting the club first, and that is inexcusable.
Astro your comments are based on the assumption that Wenger is making a concious choice to deal slowly in the transfer window - which i find to be highly unlikely. There is no evidence to support that claim and no possible way of seeing what is holding up transfer activity. So overall a pretty useless comment to make

All of what you are saying could be/probably is true. That is the problem. We are following patterns of previous Summers despite promises from Gazidis that this Summer would be different. He is even quoted as saying we would try to get business done early and we are now approaching August without a single ****ing signing being made or close being made. That is unacceptable, I don't care what anybody says, pre season IS important. If our signings are not completed by the Emirates Cup then I will view this transfer window as a failure, regardless of who comes in.
As for disliking your comment, I didn't see that much wrong with it, I just disagreed with the way you put it and instead of arguing with people on here I will now just give likes and dislikes because I find many debates on here become tedious arguments pretty quickly.

Yes maybe he is working as hard and as fast as he can, but there is no evidence of that. They only information (using the term loosely) we do have is that he is pratting about with £40m+£1, then £42.5m bids when if he just came in with something more sensible like £45m in the first place then the whole process could be much smoother and more beneficial to Arsenal.
So by your logic we could sign Messi, Ronaldo, Casillas, Fabregas and Iniesta and it'd be a failed window because they came in to late? Think you might change your mind depending on who coems in. Can't judge it a failure until it's over tbh.
