Thus far it has been a pretty bad transfer season, tried to stay away from the discussion as far as I could... Thing is with all that talk of spending big the build up was almost identical to last year, which is why I pretty much knew it wasn't worth it to get my hopes up about quick and "decisive" transfers.

If you want to attract top talent you don't have to shout it from the rooftops, you do it by example. Someone like Suarez or Rooney was always going to go on until the last days, but how about at least making some ambitious signing earlier and let potential big names know that we actually do mean it this time?

If we were after some quality player like Fellaini (not him necessarily), are you saying that we couldn't get him by early July, and use that as an additional argument that we really do mean we want to invest and kick it up a notch this time around?

How many of you thought last season that we are only one perfect striker away from having a title-challenging team? I mean seriously? We had some usual suspects as scapegoats (and we all have our favorites <whistle>) but it seems that everyone has forgot how much we lacked in creativity against some of the opposition sides we struggled against.

How many times did we just give up on trying to break defenses and just passed the ball in a half circle around their 16 yard area, looking ****ing clueless? That's a mark of an incomplete team, not one just lacking finishers.

To me we have far too many similar midfielders, for one, which can make us vulnerable to a lot of teams. The league format is the best competition to show how good you are against a huge sample of opponents. Your very best performance or peak level isn't as important. You have to have solutions to every opponent.

The club have really ballsed up this summer. The battle for 4th is going to be interesting next season with Spurs having made significant improvements.

Hearing Wayne Rooney may be off to Chelsea but I really can't verify how reliable it is.

Very good post. Repped <ok> EDIT: Must have given you some rep before as it says I must spread first!!

I'm no Arsenal fan, but I do prefer you lot to any of the other potential title winning teams. It seems like the same old promises, year after year. I totally agree if you had shown real intent in the market early on - the attraction of players later in the window would have been significantly better.

Like I say I don't support Arsenal, but I do wonder sometimes what the **** Wenger is doing.

We could still have a positive end to this, but we won't exactly come out as particularly competent at this stuff.

Last season we did some good business early on until the rvp public letter turned it around. (They actually did show some of the ambition he asked)

But I'm not among those that think Suarez only would save this transfer window. We need strengthening in other areas too, and there is no reason for some of those signings not to have been completed earlier.

It's hard to see where we're going as a club if nothing happens in the remainder of this window, saying we tried but the right players weren't available isn't good enough anymore.

This was supposed to be the window where everything changes, no more excuses, and all the other things that have been said

    There's still time..

We need Suarez, a GK, a CB and a DM to compete for the title. Cesc would also be nice.

If we are lucky we will get Suarez and that will be it. In fact it almost seems like we are leaving Suarez until as late as possible so when we do eventually sign him, people will be so happy we have forgotten about all the other pressing needs that must be addressed in our squad.

Agreed I think we are a few players short of a title challenge. A striker is what's most needed I think and Suarez would give us a lot of creativity we lacked last season. Need a CB, CDM and GK in addition to that. Can't see where it's coming from at the moment but trying to remain positive.

I can see the Suarez saga going right up until Sept 2nd.If we are to get him it would have nice to have him playing in the CL qualifiers.

Former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas girl’s ex-husband loses court fight over home

A property tycoon who lost his wife to former Arsenal star Cesc Fabregas has now lost the former family home too after a judge refused to halt its £5.5 million sale to the footballer.

Elie Taktouk, 38, whose ex-wife, Daniella Semaan, gave birth to Fabregas’s baby in April, tried to block the sale on the basis that the Barcelona star’s offer was £2 million  less than its value.

The Grade-II listed Belgravia flat, close to Buckingham Palace, had been ordered for sale as part of divorce proceedings in order to provide money for Ms Semaan to buy her own home.

But Mr Taktouk soon learned it was her new boyfriend who had put an offer on the table within three weeks of the flat going on the market.

After the sale to Fabregas, 25, was approved by the High Court, Mr Taktouk launched a last-ditch bid for time to look for a bid closer to his £7.5 million valuation of the apartment, where his ex was still living.

But after a Court of Appeal hearing, the footballer and his Lebanese girlfriend were the winners when Lord Justice Floyd threw out Mr Taktouk’s application to block the sale to the former Arsenal captain.

Mr Taktouk and his ex-wife have two children but separated in 2011, months after Ms Semaan was seen on holiday with Fabregas.

Wonder why Cesc would fight so hard for a house in London <whistle>

Good post and yeah I agree.

It's going to be very hard to land a Rooney or a Suarez without convincing the player that we do in fact mean business this Summer.

Apparently today is the last day before Fellaini's £22 Million buy out clause expires. If this is actually true - surely he would be a worthy signing and send out the right message?

Afterall we had a bid for Lars Bender rejected so we know Wenger is interested in a DM/CM. Unsuprisingly there's been no second bid. It seems we have no idea how to negotiate these days.

It does really piss me off the first Summer in years we have decent spending power and backing from the board - Nothing happens.

The general consensus on this board last Season was that the current Arsenal squad is the weakest in Wengers tenure. Yet no signings... No early addition to raise moral of the fans and bring some positive media attention.

I swear Arsenal are turning me grey.

“Show me some respect, I’m an African champion!” – Oboabona turns down Arsenal trials
    http://dailypost.com.ng/2013/07/30/...-champion-oboabona-turns-down-arsenal-trials/

Godfrey Oboabona has taken a swipe at Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger, for showing him a lack of respect.

The Super Eagles defender blasted the Gunners, after they demanded that he comes to London for trials, before he can make a move to the Emirates.

Oboabona feels he does not have anything to prove, especially after he featured prominently for Nigeria, as they won their third Africa Cup of Nations trophy this year.

“Arsenal’s management tell me to come for a trial when I WON the African Nations Cup,” the 22-year-old Oboabona told The Sun.

“I think I should be above such requests. It is high time some of these clubs started respecting Nigeria.”
