Transfer deadline day thread

Don't know too much about Herrera... A quick internet search revealed the following:

Age: just turned 24
Height: 6 foot (1.82m)
Nationality: Spanish
Described as an attacking central midfielder, but can play anywhere in the center of the park (i.e. even at DM if needed, and obviously at CM)

The site http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/ander-herrera/leistungsdaten/spieler_99343_gesamt.html has some nice details, just select the season you want to see stats for... Bear in mind that I'm drawing the following conclusions purely from his stats, if someone has actually watched him play they'd have a much more informed opinion!

He doesn't seem to be a goalscoring midfielder based on the stats, he picks up a fair amount of yellow cards so might be rather combative.
2012/13: 35 matches, 2 goals, 2 assists, 13 yellows.
2011/12: 55 matches, 4 goals, 12 assists, 13 yellows.
2010/11: 43 matches, 6 goals, 4 assists, 14 yellows.
Picked up one or two reds every season too...

Not exactly mind-blowing stats, especially last season. let's hope he's one of thiose guys that works hard in midfield and does the dirty work, but doesn't get the glory for getting the assist/goal.

Anyone watched him and can tell us something about his playing style?

Genuine box to box midfielder who is a great tackler and a superb passer. Also a decent header of the ball like most of the Athletic team.He does score occasionally and notched a cracker against Barcelona in November 2011 in the 2-2 I attended.

Although he was born in Bilbao he isn't a graduate of Lezama and doesn't really have the bond to the club like most others, hence his move.

He was carrying a groin injurey for much of last year and like most of the team suffered from El Loco's manic training and playing demands. He was used in more of a holding role last season and can play a variety of roles in the middle.

He's good friends with De Gea,team mates from U21 Internationl level, and no doubt spoke to him about the move.

Can't believe anybody would prefer Ozil to Ander although I wish you did buy him and leave this guy with Athletic.

This time next year he will the most important player in the team.

Best €36m your club has ever spent.

I still can't get over that Ozil was available and we didn't even try to buy him!

Not particularly impressed that we are ****ing around on transfer deadline day to try and buy players as well.

Is he actually signing then ? Not read any reports from Spain yet just rumours.

Tbh I'll be delighted but shocked if we do buy anyone considering Moyes said he was happy with the squad.

Classic manager B.S. If he was happy, why so many bids and interest in so many other players like Fabregas, Fellaini, Baines, this fella from Spain etc. All in different positions too; LB, CM, Attacking Mid etc

Jose said the same and we've signed 3 players since then.

I agree in part with you but still be surprised if we sign anyone. But in saying that we did sign a new sponsorship deal a few days ago so well done Ed Woodward <applause> http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2896.../manchester-united-agree-new-sponsorship-deal Result!

Have we not signed anyone yet?? I'm really excited at the prospect of signing no one.. I'm pretty sure moyes is sat at home in his hot tub doing precisely **** all..

hes still at Carrington according to James Cooper ssn

I guess then Woodward is still in London. While Gill called into Carrington from time to time to see the players and SAF, Woodward doesn't know where it is. It is claimed the players call him the ghost as they have never seen him. More interested in getting sponsorship deals than obtaining new players for Moyes.
