Transfer deadline day thread

Well nani is like a new signing as will Fletcher and if need be we can once again get scholars to unretire.

Oh and Anderson, this is his year probably.

No argument that Ozil is better than Fellaini or Herrera, but I'd rather we sign the players we need in CM, rather than just sign good players because they are available. Ozil in CM would smack too much of Gerrard in CM - a top quality player, but one that isn't a proper central midfielder, and thus would never be at the core of a truly top side. My preference would still be De Rossi and Draxler, for just that reason.

Ronaldo's better than any of the players mentioned, but buy him and stick him in CM and we still wouldn't solve the problem. That said, CR's good enough that we probably would!

Keep repeating yourself Swarbs, it seems half the posters aren't quite getting your point!

I agree, we can sign a great AM, Striker and GK, but the fact remains that we have a massive massive hole in midfield that needs to get plugged with a proper central midfielder (or TWO), not an AM.

What, the point that he wants us to sign Draxler, even though we haven't once been linked to him, ever?

Or that Ozil can't really play at CM, even though he can?

Which point exactly are us knuckle heads not getting?

David Moyes has just paved a driveway, which will make way for his new car to get freely in and out of the garden.

United have offered 36 for Herrera
Herrera will have to pass medical and United pay it all in cash but deal practically done

Oh sorry, I forget we can only sign players we've been linked with. I'll get matth to rustle up a twatter link for you...

And yes, I'd like us to try and sign Draxler given that recent rumours are that he's available for about the same as Ozil, and is actually Arsenal's backup option if Ozil rejects them.

I'm sure Ozil can play at CM, just like Giggs can, or Rooney, or Alan Smith bravely tried to. But I'd much rather we finally sign a proper CM, who has played there for most of his club career, rather than to try and convert another player on the basis that he's great at number 10, so must also be great a number 4 or 8.

As I've said many times, I don't believe playing Ozil at CM will cut it in the games against clubs like Liverpool and Chelsea. Until we sort out that massive hole in the middle of our team, I don't see the point in chasing yet another player just because they are good.

He plays in midfield for Real Madrid and Germany. He's an attacking midfield, not a forward, the like of which we do not possess and very, very definitely DO need.

I can only repeat, again, I did not say only buy Ozil but have on more than two occasions said we also need De Rossi or Fellaini or Hererra to play alongside him.

I'm talking about players we're supposedly in for. If we're here discussing players we'd like but won't actually sign then I would have said Schweinsteiger. We're not getting him,or after him, so there's no point.

Have to say I always viewed ozil as an attacking mid. Not a number 10. I saw him as being the ideal scholes replacement. A playmaker if you will.

Being as we are Manchester United that to me means we buy the best available.

I have no idea who Herrera is or why he is so much money. That said I am excited about signing fellani as I have a black Afro wig which I will wear at my next united game. .

Don't know too much about Herrera... A quick internet search revealed the following:

Age: just turned 24
Height: 6 foot (1.82m)
Nationality: Spanish
Described as an attacking central midfielder, but can play anywhere in the center of the park (i.e. even at DM if needed, and obviously at CM)

The site http://www.transfermarkt.com/en/ander-herrera/leistungsdaten/spieler_99343_gesamt.html has some nice details, just select the season you want to see stats for... Bear in mind that I'm drawing the following conclusions purely from his stats, if someone has actually watched him play they'd have a much more informed opinion!

He doesn't seem to be a goalscoring midfielder based on the stats, he picks up a fair amount of yellow cards so might be rather combative.
2012/13: 35 matches, 2 goals, 2 assists, 13 yellows.
2011/12: 55 matches, 4 goals, 12 assists, 13 yellows.
2010/11: 43 matches, 6 goals, 4 assists, 14 yellows.
Picked up one or two reds every season too...

Not exactly mind-blowing stats, especially last season. let's hope he's one of thiose guys that works hard in midfield and does the dirty work, but doesn't get the glory for getting the assist/goal.

Anyone watched him and can tell us something about his playing style?

Everyone seems to be focussing on central midfield without paying mind to the horrible situation on the wings. Young? Valencia? Nani? This is Manchester United. For well over a year, Young has been the worst player for club and country by a country mile. It's shcoking. United have long been know to have had strong wing play.
