Would you have suggested the Carling Cup doesn't count if your team didn't keep losing in the final? I'm going to say 'no'.
Well it was a bad day vs Brum. That hurt us alot obviously. But the one vs chelsea we played our youth players Having said that the main reason for wanting to win it last year was just wanting to win something. If wer won that it would of been the double with the EC (the real EC - the emirites cup)
Thor - You said goals matter, Ade is on 11 goals, so is 8th in the scorers chart. Don't forget his bizarre amout of disallowed legit goals, add them in and he'd be 5th, 2 behind Aguero and Ba. I see no reason why he won't finish in the 15-20 bracket for the season, not triffic!, but not shabby either, 20-25 is a good season but Messi/Ronaldo aside, its rare any striker keeps that up season in season out, not in our range anyway. You can only compare him in the PL too, its no good comparing 'goals for the season all comps'...he hasn't really featured in cup and european games like the others have. As for lazy, I think it was Gary Neville who said he's never seen Ade run about so much as he has in a Spurs shirt.
My wife is Cypriot Dona, my brotherinlaw is an APOEL season ticket holder so whenever I am in Cyprus I go to the matches. I have NEVER seen them lose, he always buys my ticket.
We've won a major trophy more recently than Arsenal. Indeed we beat Arsenal 6-2 on aggregate on the way to that trophy, not to mention winning at City with 10 men. Then in the final we came back from 1-0 down to beat one of the richest clubs in the world - A magnificent achievement to top off a magical, memorable Cup campaign. One of the best Cup runs I have experienced in my 50+ years of following Spurs. The highlight being at the Lane to see us trounce Arsenal 5-1 Love it - you betcha!!!!!!
Back to tonight - Great to be at the Lane to see a really good Cup tie, and a win for us. I think we wil beat Bolton, and so reach Wembley - again. Just hope we make the final this year.
The BBC's "unbiased" view of the two penalties: "And White Hart Lane was stunned into silence when Ryan Nelsen tripped Byrom, who had made a driving run into the penalty area, and the midfielder sent Carlo Cudicini the wrong way in finding the bottom left-hand corner." "He conceded the second penalty of the evening for a challenge on Bale, although replays showed little contact. Adebayor, a first-half substitute for Lennon, nonchalantly sent Day the wrong way from 12 yards." Huh? The Stevenage penalty was the one with little contact, although usually they don't mention that kind of thing at all unless it was a clear cut dive Bale also hit the bar with an absolute rocket that apparently wasn't worth mentioning. All in all, the BBC get themselves another 0/10 for their match reporting Incase anyone missed it/wants to watch it again: http://www.espn.co.uk/football/sport/video_audio/139884.html
Just seen the replays, what on earth were BBC watching? Sitting in Park Lane I couldn't tell if they were/ were not pens but after seeing the link you've just posted, the Stevenage player DIVED!!! I genuinely can't see any contact. Bale's definitely had contact but you could argue and say that as he mis-controlled his final touch prior to being hit, it makes it a hard decision to call and would probably be criticised either way. But to honestly say Nelsen "tripped" Byrom is an absolute joke.
A pity clubs can't sue for slander, eh? If so, we'd be spared ****e like this. I've said a few times, journalists bang on and on about minnows and the romance of the cup, but the fact is the FA don't want Stevenage in the final, they don't even want Stoke - they want a Manchester Derby, a North London Derby, they want Chelsea, they want Liverpool, they'd probably want Newcastle as well. I take it the BBC also neglected to mention the foul that saw Dawson stretchered off deserved a yellow card - in rugby.
Very true, Croydon. I thought that Stevenage were guilty of making quite a few of those challenges, too. Whenever they were unable to properly contest a header, they'd just back into their opponent and put them off balance. Dangerous stuff. Phil Neville put Bale's back out a couple of seasons ago with similar tactics, so I hope that we don't see a repeat of them this weekend.
