Remy isn't playing CL football next season anyway - Marseilles are in the Europa League qualifiers
Vertonghen is out of contract next year and hasn't signed an extension, and discussions between us and Ajax are advanced

As I said elsewhere, these are the two signings we're likely to have set in stone for the summer regardless of what happens, the issue is we've lost one negotiating tool. It does mean any cheeky bid for Van Persie will probably fall on deaf ears, though...

So, you're arguing now that because Remy doesn't have CL with his current club, that means he doesn't want it anyway and is happy to sign for a club that doesn't have it, either wasting another year...or more...its not exactly 'set in stone' we'll get it next year!

"Likely to have been set in stone earlier", really?, are there honestly, good players and agents that thick!. What is more "likely" is that you've missed Spurs are concerned about Remy's heart condition, something you've not mentioned.

Players and agents were waiting to see "IF" we got CL.

...and as for Van Persie! <laugh> On a miserable day I found one thing to make me smile, this comment...

....it means any cheeky bid even with CL would be utterly embarrassing. RVP will never, ever play for us, and to give him the opportunity to laugh at one is unthinkable...well, apart from you!...you even put 'probably'! <laugh>

You really do talk complete and utter ****e at times! <cheers>

morning Al, yeah i noticed that earlier. £15 mill seems good too? i thought we were looking at £22mill+. hopefully the report is accurate.

Also reports about Javi Marquez of espanyol. - i know nothing about him at all.

Defensive midfielder apparently. Can't see it happening, we can already pretty much field a team of centre midfielders.

hahaha Defensive midfielder. "scott, sandro, jake... none of you are good enough, we've had to bring in a 4th option in your position."

also reports emerging that Vertonghen has told dutch press that he "only wants a move to spurs". apparently its down to us to meet the 15mill euro asking price.

If that price is set in stone, we should meet it ASAP. He wants to join, and we need him, so don't piss it up the wall.

Ade joining on a permanent deal should also help, especially as it means we have continuity.

A thought, though: What if we signed Adebayor on a permanent deal, but also brought in Remy?

See its not all doom and gloom! I doubt there will be an exodus and I also doubt we will struggle to improve the squad.

afternoon HBIC <ok>

it's funny you should say that, I hve also seen reports that Remy is the top target in addition to Adebayor, not instead of.

I just didn't want to put anything on here yet, as there's nothing concrete enough.

we could easily have all 3, very soon.

Gotta say, I'm really surprised we're so close on vertonghen. I had a nasty feeling he was going to not be interested as of sunday. that's the exact sort of player we want in a spurs shirt and as you say, we must snap him up.

if you have a look at my post you replied to, you'll see i edited it. - apparently levy is in amsterdam today. perhaps he's going to seal it and he's heard you shouting from the rooftops! :) <ok>

I do wonder what our transfer kitty is. If we managed to bring in vert, remy and ade that would be a pretty good start to the window. I am still waiting for us to go for a winger though. We were heavily linked with Krasic but I guess lack of CL has screwed that one over.

We built this squad without CL football so we sure as hell can continue without it <ok>

I said this yesterday Al. in 18 months we've bought pienaar for 3m(?) and parker for 5.5m. the rest were loans/frees. (please add anyone i've missed who we paid for)

therefore.. we have no budget, or Levy has been holding it back.

Vertonghen, Remy, Ade and perhaps Adam Johnson, and i think we're almost there.

Maybe a goalkeeper can wait, and any other unnecessary signings that we might have been hopeful of, should we have made it into the CL.

In the case of Vertonghen, he's out of contract next summer which does aid us in negotiations - at the very least we should offer £10m (not the £7-8m we're supposed to be offering) and see if we can reach a compromise.

With the glut of players out of contract at Bolton this summer, does anyone think we should take a punt on any? Gretar Steinsson maybe?

Lastly, with West Ham being £14m out of pocket after promotion (once again making a mockery of Karren Brady being presented as somebody with any business sense whatsoever...), would anyone be against us taking advantage of Robert Green not being under contract and bringing him in on a free, and offering West Ham the chance to aid the development of a top prospect in English goalkeeping...otherwise known to the rest of us as Ben Alnwick?

Yes Adam Johnson - good shout.

It certainly looks like Levy is ready to show some ambition in the market - we will have to wait and see.

I really do think Modric is looking like he is off (even if we made the CL) so we need to think about who can replace him as well. Huddlestone coming back will be a massive plus for us.
