Okay, discussion begins, no CL, who do we miss out on buying, and who do we lose through sales?

Remy isn't playing CL football next season anyway - Marseilles are in the Europa League qualifiers
Vertonghen is out of contract next year and hasn't signed an extension, and discussions between us and Ajax are advanced

As I said elsewhere, these are the two signings we're likely to have set in stone for the summer regardless of what happens, the issue is we've lost one negotiating tool. It does mean any cheeky bid for Van Persie will probably fall on deaf ears, though...

Getting in a player who can score from corners - great idea.

But first, can we get a manager who thinks it's worth practising corners, and then let him buy a player who can take corners, before we think about the player who is going to score them?

Well it's all change now after last night :(

The rule sucks - but a rule it is unfortunately.

I think Modric will find his way to my 'Out' list at some point - fearful over Bale too but fingers crossed he'll stay another season.

It's gonna be much harder to find top players but you look at Newcastle, and it's obvious they're out there. Come on scouts - earn your paypackets!

if bale and modric are sold, there's a hell of a lot of money to then spend on some very good talent. Even if it does mean we have a transition season.

when we've sold players in the past we've never got the level of money we could be seeing from Modric and Bale.

Bale is irreplaceable at the moment, but we might not have a choice.

At least 80-100mill is mega money to get an awesome squad and fill positions that need cover.

It's 1 thing having the money - it's another entirely convincing the top players to come and play for a team not at the top tier.

Plus you start breaking the wage structure to accomodate the top players and you're on a slippery slope with us currently at WHL (i.e. we need the increased turnover that only a new stadium can provide).

I'm not on about breaking the wage structure. That wont change until we're in our new stadium.

but having the money to spend means we've at least got a chance of getting players. - Does anyone know what we've actually got available at the moment? in the last 3 transfer windows we've bought pienaar for £3m(?), Parker - 5.5, and the rest were loans/free's.

perhaps we could do with 80 odd million!!

You mention building a new stadium but don't take into account that this is Levy's priority. Without that move Spurs will struggle to compete with the very top teams. We cannot expect large transfer spending and a new stadium. That's the balance Levy has to perform at the same time trying to keep Spurs competitive. Harry's ability to pick up older players that can do the job for little outlay is probably what keeps him in the job.

i dont think we can get top players..we cant offer them the wages or the level of football they want.

we have to accept this..it is the only way we can progresss..by recognising our level then putting that right.

to be honest losing Modric doesnt bother me ive said it before..this world is riddled with creative mids..we can get anther one who can be as good...however i dont have faith in our transfer policies.....or the simple fact that even if we do get someone who can be good...i doubt he would be given the chance.

or worse comes to worse..we really do seem to look for players in the wrong places!

i can understand that the stadium plans will restrict our spending power..however we dont need to behave like Liverpool to find success...there are players out there....look at the gems Newcastle find...look at the unknowns that pull up trees for lesser teams..they are out there...however it seems like we spend alot of time floating above our station in transfers that we would never get them anyway and those we can search out and purchase end up moving somwhere else and proving our hesitancy wrong in them!

therefore we end up like we always do most transfer windows...unless we pull rabbits out of hats(VDV)...but we dont have a magician..really we dont!

they are all "decent players". We need "top players".

We already have loads of decent players, but we need more that have that bit extra,. More players like Rafa.

exactly though spurf, some of the 80 odd mill could go towards the stadium, therefore reducing the defecit. i'm not suggesting spending 80 mill on players!! but at least if we've got a chunk of 80 mill, that's better than having nothing. we've spend bugger all recently. Spending a little more where necessary, might actually keep us competitive and the money could be used towards the new stadium at the same time to help/adjust the finances in the mean time.

hate to say this i really do hate to use this phrase but...

small club mentality im afraid HIAG..that is why we will always be 'also rans'..the 'nearly men'..always on the cresp of something great'...forever giving the fans that hope....just a bit of tinkering and we can get there...very frustrating....we are a club who pride themselves on flair..we bring the pomp to the pitch...however..i think we need a blend of that and some basterds thrown in for good mesure...not clumsy twats like Barton,Palaciois..but gritty fightters with leadership skills..not one aspect or the other but all aspects..grit..determintaion and skill..i dont know who but im sure they are there....people like Viera,Keane ..shouters,brawlers and skillfull...we dont have anyone with all three...Parker isnt all 3 and nor is Sandro..im not saying they cant be..but they are not as we speak..so someone needs to get them to that level..so now we start to look at the management and its capabilities....the answer is staring at us..but we cant see it...it seems..within the club.
