a report in the Daily Telegrath today states tha Barca still want Garath but don't want to pay the 35 million as it to much for him.his agent has said they will have to pay more as he is happy at Spurs.Barca have said he will have to agitate a move like Cesc did,but he would'nt do that according to his agent.Spurs say he is not for sale
yeah I've seen a couple of these, Tots. Apparently they are prepared to offer 45m euro's? Daniel Levy has to stick to his word, simples. Other reports in spain are suggesting that Real want Modric and we're after Gaston Ramirez of Bologna
Ramirez's name did the rounds a month or so ago - another one to add to the list of midfielders who can play through the middle or on the right, although this one has the advantage of the multitude of jokes that come from the fact he used to play for a club named Fray Bentos...
Please no more midfielders! Better two fast wingers so we have back up in 4411 or good enough front men to play 4231 properly. Plus Vertonghen, a GK and a LB and we're sorted.
If we're in the CL next season, I think the GK, CD, LB, Winger/s and Strikers will be taken care of this summer. (well nearly all of it at least) If we don't make it, i think there will only be 2-3 additions; ones of which Levy and Harry think will be enough for us to progress, and can cope with the football we will be playing. - Prem/CC/FA Cup. (no doubt the kids will be used for the EL again) If we make it tonight, I think there will be some big movement from us in the window next week, with the euros starting in a few weeks.
Yeah - absolutely, totally 100% made up. This isn't a computer game. Players don't go around with price stickers on them. Educated guesses is all. Players don't have a price til someone offers a fee that's accepted.
Lots of rumours about Remy flying around. I wonder whether that would mean defoe makes way or whether we will just give up on any attempt to sign ade People seem to be under the impression that a chelsea loss today could see him and Vert join next week...
Thing is that Saha's contract's over now, isn't it? So our only actual striker at the club right now is Defoe. Which is very, very, very sobering. Remember when we could comfortably sell him for £10m cos we had at least two strikers who were way, way better than him?
Bale's for sale if the price is right. If we don't make the CL it would be a waste of his talent to stay and not fair to him to have a chance in the top competition. He proved he's good enough for any team in Europe.
Yeah. Poor footballer. Imagine if he didn't have a chance to earn £200k a wee...I mean play in the elite European club competition. Maybe he could join Barcelona and see if he can (with the help of the seeding system) help them beat Genk in the opening rounds. The EPL is a much harder competition that the CL. And helping Spurs do well in it is a damn sight harder than "helping" Barca or City progress in the rich clubs' love-in that is the CL. To say that a very talented player "only" playing in the domestic competitions is "wasting their talent" is insulting to the hundreds of thousands of English football fans, an inaccurate assessment of the comparative difficulties of the competitions and it's very sad that people have been brainwashed by the mega-money machine that is the CL. The CL's nothing special. 95% of teams are just in it for the money. The small teams get big pay-days and the big teams get near-guaranteed progression to the knock-out stages, if not the quarter finals. We showed last year what a load of hot air all that "The Chaaaampionsssss" bullshit is. Kicked that competition's arse. Only good thing about the CL for Spurs (and it's a very good thing) is that if we qualify we get £20-30m or more to strengthen and maybe start winning things again.
Lenny, your 4th paragraph states that 95% are only in it for the money then your last paragraph states that the good thing for us is the money. I would say all teams are in it for the money first and the kudos it provides second. Bale would be amongst better players at Barca and Real. Anyway I don't want to repeat myself. I'd love him to stay but a big offer wouldn't be refused. It would be hugely difficult for anybody to step into his shoes.
Yes Spurs are in that 95%. We (like Arsenal) will almost certainly not win the thing. The use of it is to get some money so we can build a better and better team. And then maybe win something. I certainly wasn't implying that 95% of teams' motives are dishonourable and Spurs' are just and pure and true. I just hate all the bullshit about "wanting to be in greatest competition" that perhaps many of the 95% give it (and Spurs too perhaps). Rosenberg (off the top of my head) or teams like love being in the CL cos it means they have a better chance to dominate in their domestic competitions. Not cos of the "prestige" of hearing that ridiculous ****ing "Chaaampiooons" music or the chance to "test themselves against the best". Bale will not be amongst the best players at Barca. He's arguably not even been amongst the best players at Spurs over the course of the last 18 months. If he was as good as his agents or the tabloids or (possibly) he thinks he'd have helped us get third.
I so agree with lennypops on all this CL hype and all this greatest competition bollocks. It COULD be a great competition in fact it WAS a great competition when it was played by CHAMPIONS. Funny! it was not called the Champions League when it WAS only now when it isn't. Contrived by the elite so they can be even more elite with lip service played to a level playing field. It's about as level as the Lake District. All that is worst about modern football is there in the Chaaampiooooons (Like it lenny). Money/Money/Money/Money/Money. The only good thing about this seasons league was the unexpected (and unwanted) success of a team like APOEL reaching the last 8 or last season Spurs lighting up this mostly drab competition by doing similar with exciting going for it football. Even Spurs got sucked in and played some very negative football in the last tie. I'll watch it, you just might get a good game, but I wont be surprised if it's the usual negative rubbish, and I wont be fooled into thinking that I am watching the best in Europe. if I want that I have more chance with any number of league games.
I'm thinking those are the two signings we'll make either way, and it will be any further signings that are dependent on tonight's result - if Bayern win we will sign one or two more whilst selling players, if Chelsea win we will sell players to generate funds for further signings.
His wikipedia page says he signed a six-month contract. The Daily Mail says 18 months. BBC says nothing. Better go to the official Spurs website to clarify then! ... (a little later) Oh - the official website just said we "signed" him. How surprising for the official information organ to be so utterly useless.
