Those stats are obviously excellent, but one thing I did agree with Hendrie on tonight is that there is still more to come from this squad. Now the likes of Matsuki and Edozie are contributing, our depth is even greater than it was a couple of months ago. Also, is anyone missing Armstrong because I'm not?

Ot would appear not after five tonight and 4 against LC

Not at all, and thought Larin was superb tonight. I think we can conclude that five at the back was **** too.

Just saw the stat on Sky.

Basically if the season had started when Tonda took over, we'd be top of the table - we have accumulated more points than anyone else since he took over.
Well, yeah, but he's not a proper manager, got no experience, we need Sam Allardyce to save our season, etc, etc

I mean, Tonda record has been impressive overall, and has surpassed practically all of our expectations.

It wasn't unreasonable at the time to be calling for an experienced manager.
Yeah, this is now the case of shaming people who had genuine concerns, which is a little odd.

And I thought most peoples irk was about SR taking yet another gamble, less about Tonda himself.

And this could still be a gamble - we have achieved nothing this seaon. It is still unlikely we get promoted, and great if we do.

I dont think we will, and next season is then more vital.

Stat just up on Sky. Since Tonda appointment:
Most wins Saints 1q joint 1st
Points 38 Saints 1st
Goals 41 Saints 1st
Expected goals 35.6 Saints 1st
Shots on target 118 Saints 1st.

Pretty damn impressive. And I know you can pick stats to suit narrative.

Time to archive this thread

Archive it? Nah, time to sticky it

We are finally back to where we were two years ago offensively but much better defensively than then, it's just a shame that Still And Tonda persevered with a back 5 for so long,
We are definitely on the right path with the GK, defence and CF conundrums being solved now, we've even stopped conceding from corners.
I naturally had reservations about Tonda because of the poor history of Saints caretaker managers becoming permanent but he is quiety impressive and has fostered a good team spirit with a winning mentality so fair play to him.

Yeah let's not big Tonda up too much because we know what will happen if we do. Let's just say well done, keep up the good work.

Think it's also important to point out that new assistant manager, Ben Garner, was appointed on January 4th. His first game was the 2-1 loss to Hull. After that came the switch to 4-4-2 and the current unbeaten run we're on. Might just be a coincidence of course, but interesting all the same.

Wasn’t he another one everyone said was **** when he arrived?

The thing we need to determine (and I say this only because it is SR) is Tonda good because he is good, lucky or just has a good squad.

For now he’s in the good zone for me.

This is still it for me. You look at our squad and it’s full of players who have had good success at this level, or played at a higher level/pretty equivalent level so if you get them playing to their previous ability then you should have success.

Whether Still didn’t manage that because of a clique/back 5/he isn’t a good man manager or all of them, Tonda has managed to.

As has been said before he doesn’t seem to make many obvious tactical tweaks in game and his subs generally feel pre planned rather than what’s happening in the game. So if I had to guess I think he’s got the players playing for him, in a system that even the fans knew was the best one for this squad and that is why we are getting results.

I have no idea if he is a good manager or not because of this. He may have identified that changing to a different, not exactly radical, formation and keeping players happy is what was needed and he has more in the locker than that if we do end up going up. Or that’s his limit and when we aren’t such a strong squad he won’t know how to get results, which is usually what makes people take note of a manager
