Didn't Peter Taylor pull some strings (or get some dodgy payment in a brown envelope) to include Billy Paynter in an Under 21 match at the KC? Not sure whether it was a fully-fledged international match or not, but maybe John Welsh and/or Scott Wiseman were called up as well.

Wonder what happened to those 3.....with such early promise they must have gone on to forge top-flight careers for themselves somewhere surely?!

Forgetting how about Keith Andrews and the Republic of Ireland? Or was that after when he joined Blackburn.

Paynter's one appearance was in a Football League U21 England side(no Premier League players) and it wasn't a good team.

Wiseman played in a one-off U20's tournament in France.

Welsh played several times for the U21's and until his leg break, he looked like he deserved to be there.

I think Johnnie Stephens played for Wales too ... and, much earlier, how about Stan Alexander ... and, but not whilst playing for the Tigers, how about Mannion / Mortenson / Franklin .. and Mangers who played at international level would include Don Revie and Cliff Britton.

not "while playing for City" but still all internationals..

Ray Parlour 10 England Caps
Jay Jay Okocha 75 Nigeria Caps 14 goals
Mark Hately 32 England Caps 9 goals
Emlyn Hughes 62 England Caps 1 goal
Billy Bremner 54 Scotland Caps 5 goals
David Rocastle (loan) 14 England Caps
Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink 17 Holland Caps 3 goals
Bernard Mendy 4 France Caps
Daniel Allsopp 3 Australia Caps
Raich Carter 13 England Caps 7 goals
Gordon Wright 1 England Cap
Douglas Duncan 14 Scotland Caps 7 goals

You've missed loads off here! Danny Mills, Nick Barmby! Henrik Pederson, Geovanni, Steve Mclaren and Peter Taylor to name a few. Also isn't cairney an U21 international for scotland?

Jamie Wood was the Cayman Islands.

Interesting I've been reading "From Boom to Bust" and it seems that Whitmore & Goodison played for Jamaica against Jamie Wood who was selected for the Cayman Islands... 3 City players thousands of miles away facing each other..

and to confirm it was the same season (B Little was boss) that he signed the Faroes player Johannson. Jason van Blerk's last cap for Oz was the season before he joined City.

I wasn't at all sure about the van Blerk one, it was really just a guess as I couldn't remember the forth player, looks like it was Wood then and it must have been 2001.

Paynter is at Leeds, Welsh is playing for Tranmere near to his native Liverpool and Scott Wiseman the last i heard was playing for Rochdale alongside Will Atkinson.
