I've never seen our formation under Bruce named as 5-3-2.

The trouble with Hudd and Jake is what Cloughy called moral courage. He thought John McGovern had more of this than anyone and why he kept signing him. The courage to look for and receive the ball and hold it under pressure when there's nothing on. Both Hudd and Jake panic with the ball when a man is near him. Hudd should watch some old videos of Jan Molby who would receive it and hold off players and give a good ball. Quinny takes that responsibility well.
Their third goal. Hudd needed to hold his man off and take responsibility, he panicked and ****ed it up in his haste to pass the buck.

Whether Elmo's a midfielder or not doesn't alter the fact that Huddlestone was total garbage on Tuesday, and for that game in particular I would suggest that every midfielder we have at the club would have been better than him, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.

Huddlestone has all of the tools except pace, which is obviously the reason that Bruce keeps selecting him, however when he's having an off night he needs replacing from the bench, it's really no good waiting and hoping that he'll improve, on Tuesday night he looked liked he'd been on the piss for the previous 24 hours, there was no hope of an improvement, if anything he got worse!

I would go along with the thinking that he is, or can be, the best midfielder at the club, but he needs to take his finger well and truly out of his arse, because if he's selected for the Burnley game, and we lose, there's a pretty high chance that he will have had another lousy game. Whether that's a gamble worth taking only Steve Bruce can decide.

One player doesn't make a team but he can be the difference between winning and losing, he needs to wake up to that fact, and quick!

Staying up til 5am Sunday to watch the fight in Las vegas wouldn't have been good for preparation.

In the summer bruce needs to re-think the midfield, thudd is wasted playing deep and is making a few mistakes. So we need to sign a deep/defensive midfielder and push thudd on or we need to move him on.
If someone comes in for jake Id move him on aswell.
At the right price Id have Ramirez (putting tin hat on) providing he's over his injuries.

Even last season he wasn't great for as much of the time as some made out, some of the focus was taken off that with the whole growing his hair thing which got him publicity. But that also highlighted how few times he scores or even threatens to. And his clumsy tackling isn't anything new either.

Close him down and hustle him and he isn't that effective. Some teams are too stupid to do that and those games seemed he looked better in. The problem is even some lesser teams who we need to get results against will eventually realise that they shouldn't allow him space and time.

And Dawson can hit crossfield passes arguably as well and can defend a lot better and can even score a useful header like recently.

People like the idea of us having a great midfield general who controls the game, yet he isn't as attacking or really as industrious as some other players we have. And most of us would probably not want him taking a penalty again.

I've just looked and Hudd was hooked after 51 minutes against Burnley. That game really let us down. All 3 subs before the 60 minute mark.

Yeah that was more SB being annoyed at the players and we ended up with Curtis limping off with no one to replace him!

Really? I can recall quite a number, on here, saying Robertson was better as a midfielder as they thought him a ****e defender. I can also recall the same sort of thing being said about Elmo, with folk saying that Rosenior was the option if a defender was a priority, which kind of says Elmo and Robertson's principle duties have been as midfielders, as SB has tended to follow that thinking when switching from 3-5-2 to 4-4-2 (injuries have often confused the picture, though)

Most people when someone refers to a midfielder would think of centre mid! The ones on the flanks are known as wingers, wing backs! ( puts on tin hat )

Was just about to post he has a real lack of spatial awareness; he looked out of his depth, it was like taking candy off a baby.

You've hit the nail on the head with this, this is why I am not sure if he is somebody to trust in the last few games
