It's 3-5-2 when attacking and 5-3-2 when defending, so they're covering both midfield and defensive roles, claiming one more than the other is bollocks.
I've never seen our formation under Bruce named as 5-3-2.

Whether Elmo's a midfielder or not doesn't alter the fact that Huddlestone was total garbage on Tuesday, and for that game in particular I would suggest that every midfielder we have at the club would have been better than him, but hindsight is a wonderful thing.
Huddlestone has all of the tools except pace, which is obviously the reason that Bruce keeps selecting him, however when he's having an off night he needs replacing from the bench, it's really no good waiting and hoping that he'll improve, on Tuesday night he looked liked he'd been on the piss for the previous 24 hours, there was no hope of an improvement, if anything he got worse!
I would go along with the thinking that he is, or can be, the best midfielder at the club, but he needs to take his finger well and truly out of his arse, because if he's selected for the Burnley game, and we lose, there's a pretty high chance that he will have had another lousy game. Whether that's a gamble worth taking only Steve Bruce can decide.
One player doesn't make a team but he can be the difference between winning and losing, he needs to wake up to that fact, and quick!

what's a goblin then?
Last season he played probably the best all round complete game I have ever seen by a City player at home to Fulham and he scored a goal in that match.
I was just being facetious really, but if you got City fans to write what position each player played, they'd all write defender against Andy Robertson, not midfielder.
Its all good and well expecting ' a man on ' call but professional footballers should have a certain amount of awareness about them once on the pitch , it takes a matter of seconds to have a quick glance around.
what's a goblin then?
All 3 subs before the 60 minute mark.
Or he might not be one to trust when the chips are really down? He's a victim of his own success. Last season he played superbly. I don't think he's been as bad as everybody has made out this season, he just hasnt hit the standards he set himself last season. Talk of dropping him for Meyler (who to his credit came on and played well on Monday) is ******ed. He's our best midfielder and we can't afford to not have him in the side. He will look at his performance on Monday and be disappointed, then he'll be sure not to make those mistakes again.
You've hit the nail on the head with this, this is why I am not sure if he is somebody to trust in the last few gamesThe trouble with Hudd and Jake is what Cloughy called moral courage. He thought John McGovern had more of this than anyone and why he kept signing him. The courage to look for and receive the ball and hold it under pressure when there's nothing on. Both Hudd and Jake panic with the ball when a man is near him. Hudd should watch some old videos of Jan Molby who would receive it and hold off players and give a good ball. Quinny takes that responsibility well.
Their third goal. Hudd needed to hold his man off and take responsibility, he panicked and ****ed it up in his haste to pass the buck.
