There is, yes, but there are also plenty of people who watch England games who behave with respect to people from other countries. I think we're playing a dangerous game if we make the assumption that anyone who wants their national team to do well or who likes, and has pride in, the country in which they were born is a xenophobe or nationalist. Its inaccurate and is the kind of thing that leads to alienation and resentment.There’s a very solid link in practice though. There’s plenty of xenophobic behaviour at England games and in pubs, including against Germans, hopefully this stops all that sad ****e. I don’t think it’s the best compliment to coaches who are English mind, who want this job. Maybe the good ones are more keen on other options. After Southgate’s treatment that would be understandable.
