There is, yes, but there are also plenty of people who watch England games who behave with respect to people from other countries. I think we're playing a dangerous game if we make the assumption that anyone who wants their national team to do well or who likes, and has pride in, the country in which they were born is a xenophobe or nationalist. Its inaccurate and is the kind of thing that leads to alienation and resentment.
German pundit just been on talkSPORT. Sounded pissed off he's taking the England job, so it seems there's a "WTF" from both countries.
I still get to the odd England game. I think this sort of behaviour is minimal, or seems to be. It certainly isnt a blight on my experience. Same if I go and watch in the pub tbh. I think generally watching England is a reasonably respectable experience in the main. No doubt there are idiots, like there are at any major event, but thankfully most of them get shut down by those around them.
Equally the behaviour of many of the fans leads to understandable resentment from some football fans towards England football. Of course there are plenty of good ones but there’s a massive culture change needed and it doesn’t take much for, I’d argue the majority, with a bit of alcohol or defeat, to turn. I hope a foreign appointment softens it then I can feel comfortable with it.
The shock of the appointment has worn off and I'm pretty excited by this. He's shown he isn't a relentless people pleaser and will make hard decisions. Hopefully we get a left winger on the left wing from here on.
According to this, he doesn't start until january https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-13963227/Thomas-Tuchel-new-england-manager.html
England should be managed by an English man, typical of the woke FA to choose someone who isn’t, repeating their failure. France, Italy and Germany would never countenance a non native manager.
Curious that as someone who doesn't want a foreigner in charge you are keen to do things the way the foreigners do it and not the way England do it. Very, very curious.
**** where he comes from France has a team made from Africa players have been swapping nationalitys for years so why not managers?
I understand the argument for giving an Englishman an opportunity to lead the nation but that argument quickly becomes bile when words like woke are thrown in and facts are thrown out.
Agreed. Appointing Tuchel has nothing to do with being 'woke' and is solely about the FA appointing the best available coach. However, accusations of jingoism and being 'a gammon' thrown at anyone who isn't happy demonstrate an equal lack of fair mindedness. Both are lazy assumptions. In fact, I wish people would stop using either term in quotation marks.
Just my opinion but any National side coached by a foreigner dilutes the role. Any nation should stand or fall with the best they have on their country. It’s an idealistic thought but it’s mine. But as has been mentioned, it’s not against the rules… so good luck to him
