I'd be happy with that, but cards on the table I'm not that interested in international football anyway it's just a disruption for the domestic schedule.
I’m not sure you can read anything at all into that mind. In any given tournament, the majority of teams have had a manager of their nationality (at least amongst the teams that have a real chance of winning based on the resources and playing talent etc) so there’s of course less likelihood of a team with a foreign coach winning. If anything it makes the Greece tournament win a more outstanding achievement in favour of foreign coaches, against the odds and all that.
Yeah, there are various ways you could interpret it, one of which is simply that most countries appoint one of their own as national coach. Of the countries that don't do that though, they are mostly of the lower orders in terms of international football. Even Greece at the time they appointed Rehhagel. You could interpret appointing a foreign coach as an admission by the FA that English football isn't in great shape.
That line describes every German bloke I’ve ever known!! on holiday with some a few years ago, getting along great, drinking together etc. Water volley ball the next day, I got out of the pool and randomly booted the ball back in, hit one of them on the head, he turned into Dolph Lundgren in Rocky!!! Never spoke to me again all holiday
Can’t pretend I know his approach in any detail and know very little about his personality. Don’t give a ****e about him being German, I can’t say I’m much interested in nationalism or patriotism personally so maybe a bad judge, but I’d be more interested in Klopp if we went German.
I stumbled across this trying to find a bit more about his time at Bayern. Reasonable breakdown of his approach across his career thus far.
That a good wow mate? Certainly outside of their usual manager appointments? Maybe someone at the fa understands that now is the time for the national team to win something if they have a manager that goes for it. Carsley would have been an easy appointment to make and I can't comment on hom as I don't watch England outside of tournaments. For me that says it all to how much of a chore I find watching the national team these days. I genuinely nodded off watch one of the matches in the Euros it was that boring! Not going to lie I know nowt about Tuchel really I don't watch any football outside SAFC and England at the tournament (when I can keep my eyes open ). What style of football will he play? As long as they go for the ****ing kill its an improvement on what they have had for as long as I remember! Last point were Sven and That postman pat ****er foreign appointment of highly respected managers but not at this level and probably on their way down?
Yeah definitely. Didn't think we had that kind of pull to be honest, international management is not for everyone.
I've always believed it wasn't for managers who are considered to be top table. Middle level managers or has beens usually? Let's see what they can do with a manager who may have a style. Loads of smoke got blown up Gareths arse cause of the finishes he had in tournaments I still maintain a good manager would have got at least one trophy in that time with them players. The final agains Italy was a sacking offence for me! There for the taken they were all over the shop and they sat back and gave them a chance to reorganise and come back! The Euros just gone was score then all sit back, **** that ****!
Since taking up his first role in first-team management with Mainz 05 in 2009, Tuchel has taken charge of 578 games in his career across three different countries. He boasts 337 wins in those fixtures and has amassed over 2 points per game (PPG) at Borussia Dortmund, Paris-SG and Chelsea. 2009-14 Mainz: 183 matches W72 D45 L66 2015-17 Borussia Dortmund: 107 matches W69 D20 L18 2018-20 Paris SG: 127 matches W96 D11 L20 2021-22 Chelsea: 100 matches W63 D19 L18 2023-24 Bayern Munich: 61 matches W37 D8 L16 https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/footbal...set:3182541d-1b0b-43a8-940d-bc7c397af6f9#post
Something I've wondered about with England managers is if they are under pressure to play certain players, as they are big name draws for crowds and TV. I wouldn't be surprised if this was the case and also think it's criminal. The bigger name managers could easily say no but the FA could just say, have this extra money and do what we say. Tuchel gives the impression that he wouldn't have any of that **** and will just put the best side together. I could be barking completely up the wrong tree or course!
Nationalism and patriotism aren't the same thing, mind. Supporting your national football team doesn't necessarily equate to nationalism and thinking that the national team manager should be the same nationality as the team he's managing has more to do with sporting integrity than either. If we're having representative teams, it seems contrary if a key part of the team doesn't have to be representative.
Some appointment this. I rate Tuchel in the top 2 or 3 coaches in Europe. I agree with the sentiment of having an English coach. However, the rules dont demand it so perhaps give the FA for credit for going for who I assume they think is the best they can get. I have an inkling Howe was the choice originally but it proved not possible. I will be interested to see how he gets on with the media. Generally speaking they arent particularly supportive of the national side. It also appears to me that there is a growing number of football fans who have no interest in England. Or at least they dont until we get to a semi final. I doubt Tuchel gives a toss about any of it, and maybe that is a positive thing. Shut out the noise and coach the side. Do we have the players? I still think a France or an Argentina or a Spain have better squads. Will Tuchel bring enough to the table to overcome the gap? I hope so as I still love watching England and the next world cup is on the horizon and it for me remains the best of football. I am behind him 100% Haway England.
There’s a very solid link in practice though. There’s plenty of xenophobic behaviour at England games and in pubs, including against Germans, hopefully this stops all that sad ****e. I don’t think it’s the best compliment to coaches who are English mind, who want this job. Maybe the good ones are more keen on other options. After Southgate’s treatment that would be understandable.
