I think those who can afford it should contribute to their care. But I agree with sweats that the threshold should be set higher. You have people with vast wealth for whom the costs are a drop in the ocean, but for those like my parents and thousands of others like them, who would have the equity taken out of their house and savings I don't think is right.
A fifth of large UK firms have moved operations overseas due to Brexit, while a further 12 per cent are planning or considering it, according a new survey by the Institute of Directors (IoD).
Yeah fair enough. I don't earn anywhere near enough at the moment to have to pay for my own care costs, but who knows what that system will look like when I get to that age. Probably will have all been sold off to some US companies and we'll have an insurance system in place like they do in the States.
It's like a suicidal bird, dropping itself off a building, having to resist the urge to fly. People who set themselves on fire, I'm sure as the flames get higher and they start rolling around on the floor in agony, they soon wish that they thought of another way. Particularly if they survive.
Moved operations - or moved their operation? It’s sensible to take precautionary measures mate. What about the £70tn of European facilities that are due to pass through London clearance houses, will these just move to the EU will they? Hanz will deal with all that ****, no worries. Anyway, it’s a good thread without it going political, that’s all I’ve got to say on ****ing Brexit on this thread.
I think a big thing for her was wanting to go at sea and her family all have strong connections to the ocean. Also my friend said that she didn't want the family to find her dead, so I think part of her thinking was that she'd never be found. She was though a couple of weeks later which was obviously very distressing for the person who found her washed up.
The basic premise of our national insurance is to pay for our old age surely? I know that the NHS is on its arse and that various long lines of governments have robbed that pot to pay for other things but we really should not pay NI and Taxes to then have to be re-taxed and robbed to pay for our care. Those who can not afford it themselves and have paid their 'dues' should be given it as a matter of course.
And this is going to get political but if you've just arrived in this country and haven't contributed throughout your life then no, this courtesy shouldn't also be afforded to you. Yes, I include immigrants. No, I'm not a racist.
Well yes, it's sensible to protect their assets, but that's at the cost of UK jobs. As for the money that passes through the city, pretty sure that Frankfurt would take up some of the slack initially and other financial centres would ramp up their operations if it's cheaper and easier for them to do it 'in house' in the UK rather than in London. But yeah anyway, let's leave it at that. I suspect that you and I agree on the principles of these issues, but have different opinions on the best way to manage it all, so it's probably not for this thread
Completely agree mate. And as I've mentioned, until this Govt seek to try and recover the £119bn they don't collect in tax each year, then they don't have any excuses for making people essentially pay twice for it.
What about if somebody just arrives in the UK, pays £100k in NI in their first year... do they get it? So the rich can have treatment.
That's very unlikely. I dont have the answer though, I admit. Immigration is currently a free for all and, while I embrace it to an extent, it should be capped and managed way better. Again, probably too political, this is one of the many reasons I don't post on that thread as I don't accept being lumped into the racist pot.
Which is as it should be, to be fair. It's a difficult one to find a perfect solution to but if you're of a certain age (I don't mean me by the way) and have worked all your life paying into the British 'system', it's perfectly understandable to object to seeing high levels of immigration on whom that money is also being spent, and then to be taxed again in death. I fully understand how people see it as they are being taxed to pay for this, it's human nature, even if it's not actually the case. That they then get labelled as racists by happy clappy millenials for having such an opinion just adds to the insult.
What pisses me of about that is that there are Politicians who are happy to pour fuel on the flames of this fire to push their own immigration agendas. It's classic divide and rule tactics. Get the working class to blame the poor, get the poor to blame the immigrants/homeless for the problems that the rich create.
