They only sold the overrated John Stones and kept Lukaku. If we had only sold Wanyama and kept Mane there would be no complaints from me - and I don't think Koeman would have left.Just a thought. Despite all the guff before, we've (so far) spent more than Everton in this window (unless I'm mistaken).

I honestly feel we are all getting carried away worrying about not getting in any more transfers. If Koeman was still in charge and we had been in the same situation, having secured the contract extensions that we have, plus added Boufal, Pied, Redmond, Hojbjerg and Mccarthy then we would all be pretty confident that we could kick on this season. Likewise if we had won our first 3 games comfortably then we wouldn't be panicking at this point.
It wasn't that long ago that people were calling for Koeman's head after a jittery run of results. It's a new manager, a new system with 3 new first team starters and therefore it will take a bit of time to all bed in nicely. Whilst it's frustrating to see the likes of Bony etc go to our arrivals I feel we should all relax, trust in Les and Claude and wait to see how things develop between now and January and then address it if need be.
It's not a huge risk as we were always going to struggle to finish above Liverpool, Chelsea and maybe Everton and West Ham, so we are realistically battling for a top 10 finish this season; whether we are 10th or 13th is fairly immaterial. Once January comes around we will have a much better understanding of what's needed - hopefully nothing at all!

.Ah, okay. So the strategy is: ten teams gonna be better than us, why bother fighting? I like it!
I like your post and I agree except for the part about Liverpool and Everton etc. I think over the last few seasons we've shown we can go 'toe to toe' with them. Maybe not financially, granted, but there has been something about the Southampton spirit amongst the club that has pulled us over that finish line either around or above those teams you mentioned (with the exception of Chelsea because they will be top 4 this season without a doubt).
