Joe used to drink in the same pub as me, really friendly and down to earth.
I knew his ticker played up but didn't realise he had dementia.
Must have been terrible to see the change from the jovial story teller he was.

France rugby legend Andre Boniface has died at the age of 89.
One of the finest French players of the 1950s and 1960s, Boniface won 48 caps for his country between 1954 and 1966 and helped them to four Five Nations titles during that time.
Epitomising French flair, he made his debut as a 19-year-old as France shared the Five Nations title with Wales and England, while his second cap came in his country's first ever win over New Zealand.
He partnered his beloved brother Guy in the French midfield in the 1960s and they had their finest displays against Triple Crown winners Wales in Paris in 1965 as they led France to a 22-13 victory.
After playing their final game together in 1966, tragedy struck less than two years later when Guy was killed in a car crash on New Year's Day 1968.
In 2011, he was inducted into World Rugby's Hall of Fame, while nine years later, Mont-de-Marsan's home ground was renamed Stade André-et-Guy-Boniface.
He passed away on Monday, four months short of his 90th birthday.

Love the way she says America must "address" the race issue, without explaining how! Taking the knee and defunding the police hasn't helped
I don’t think anybody really has a race issue be it here or or over the pond, it seems the only people of colour who claim racism is a problem are those black people who operate outside the law, here and there, they blame colour for their downfalls, never their own life choices, do white criminals with the same life choices blame the colour of their skin, no they don’t, I have many black or ethnic friends, all in successful jobs and good life choices, they all came from the same estates as those who are currently in jail or dead, colour didn’t stop them doing well, so why is it that people of colour seem to think that everything else is too blame but not themselves when they fail in life whereas white people don't.
Perhaps if they just stop blaming the past ( which yes it was horrendous ) and start looking to the future and how they can improve their situation, things will improve greatly, you can only play the blame game for so long and 150 years is about enough, the past 3 generations are not responsible for the history of a nation, nor ours or theirs, maybe if they accepted this they might find a solution along with us.
Remember we are not born to hate, we are taught to hate, and in my opinion here lies the problem, if we stop the blaming and hating on both sides the problem is closer by a big margin to being solved.
Excellent post, Turkish. A culture of victimhood is never healthy, and pursuing it is demeaning and patronising to hard working and successful people of every colour and creed.
