    Remember him well growing up, a great winger in that brilliant Swansea team , and playing for Burnley. Those days of swashbuckling wingers like him, Coppell and Cunningham are a thing of the past. Sad times

    I can remember ‘dragging’ my wife (of 3 weeks) to the Vetch to see us play Liverpool in a midweek game (Feb 82).

    We beat them 2-0 and I can still see in ‘my mind’s eye’ the pile driver of a free-kick that Leighton scored.

    I think we may have gone top that night before we drifted to finish 6th (our best ever top flight finish).

    Liverpool went on to win the League …..

    As for my wife, it was something like 35 years before she came to another match :grin:

    Leighton had one of his best games for us in an unexpected 2-0 win against Liverpool in the late 70s. They must have brought the best out of him. RIP...

    Here is a photo of Leighton James with Leighton Phillips - taken, ‘fittingly’, at the recent Swans v QPR game <cheers>

    I know Leighton Phillips pretty well, we live in the same village. (As an aside, his father and mine were great pals, during and after their footballing days)

    We used to have 3 season tickets right on the half way line.
    Entrance P Row C Seats 89,90,91
    I remember James running up the wing and someone shouting “what do you know about football?”
    As he ran back he answered “more than you bloody do!”
