They are sort of going for the “no one can do worst than Jose with these players” mentality. They could be right I guess. Maybe “passion” and “knowing the club inside out” will be enough.
The idea of appointing someone because of their past as a player puts me off a lot. And if they really wanted to play like it's the 90s again, Hughes is available. Actually that one was already done here but better: https://www.football365.com/news/how-did-manchester-united-not-appoint-mark-hughes We know you like Poch but that's a bit much. PS As always I think I stole this opinion but I sometimes see a bit of (old) Mourinho in Poch, when things weren't going well he got defensive to the media in a way I think the fans love. But you know, with out the bullying.
The one thing it does show is how toxic Mourinho had become to Man Utd. Better to pay millions and have a relatively inexperienced manager than to have him at the club any longer.
Main part that confuses me about this - if he is a disaster, they’ll have no European football next year, which weakens their position to attract someone like Poch. Now don’t get me wrong, I think either way that is going to happen, but it’s peculiarly arrogant (and maybe that’s just MU!?)
Getting in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to see out half a season isn't quite the same as getting Guus Hiddink in to see out half a season. It's a bold move with just over half the season still to be played.
It would make sense if there were only 5 or 6 games left and they had nothing to play for. But at this stage of the season seem's really strange.
Exactly, there’s so much time left. It’s not even a World Cup or Euros year, so they probably could have got an international manager to split their time as well. Even someone like Koeman probably wouldn’t have said no
United have agreed a fee with Molde should they make Solksjaer permanent manager. About 7-9 mill being mooted.
I'd totally forgot that he managed Cardiff. His main achievement seems to be signing three Norwegians who happened to have the same agent as Solksjaer. Only won once away, guess who against.
Our very own Les gets his name and a few quotes in that piece. Mitchell knows what he is doing and is good at his job. He will have a lot of work to do if he joins Utd. We’ve not heard anything on our replacement DoF recently. Mitchell rumours seemed to be downplayed at the time and the Norwich guy seemed the best-fit.
Initial signing of Solskjaer reportedly costing 1.8 mill....with the possibility of him signing permanently for a further 7+ million. Would need to be quite impressive for him to do well enough to get a permanent deal.
Anyone else watch Les Reed on skysports panel talking about MP to Utd? Very interesting. Stood his ground okay when talking about MP ditching us. Two exSpurs on the panel acting all hard done by.
It’s on here: https://www.skysports.com/watch/video/sports/football/11586597/pochettino-will-maintain-his-focus Les saying Tottenham courted Poch for a long time before the end of the season but Poch didn’t get distracted from managing Saints.
