Makes perfect sense to me.

A bloke steeped in United, what the club stands for and what the fans want. A good coach to hold the reigns with a good squad that will be ok and keeps the seat warm for the man they want in the summer. If he’s brilliant and they win every game, then great he takes the job. Added bonus is the fans love him.

Also, someone presently outside of the club, which is probably why they didn’t give Carrick a shot (even for just a few days/matches). New blood, not tainted with any of the recent issues.

That appointment makes no sense whatsoever! Like to the extent it makes my head hurt.

Totally agree. He has managed in the EPL & was pretty shambolic if truths told. He was given a little time in the Championship, and faired no better.
But, because he is well liked, and won the club the Champions league 20 years ago..... he's a good fit.

Mind boggling. Its like putting fires out with paraffin.

Yep doesn't really make sense to me he's a poor coach with little experience. It would be like Saints appointing Kelv till the end of the season.

Seems quite simple to me really. They are writing this season off as they don't have much chance of making the top 4 and winning the CL is incredibly unlikely as well. Get someone in who the fans like and alledgedly plays attacking football to get everyone on board at the club and rejuvinate them.

Then in the summer go and get whoever they want for the long term. If they were looking for a full time manager now the only realistic option would be Zidane, and with this appointment it would appear that isn't who they want

Writing this season off? Really. They are still in the CL. They have to appease players like Pogba and Sanchez.
Little super-sub is going to have his hands full if you ask me.
And attacking football...............do you remember Cardiff?

That was Cardiff and it was 5(?) seasons ago. Supposedly he plays an attacking style at Molde, but we shall have to wait and see. Either way it can't be that hard to play a more attacking style than Jose has produced.

The players will probably understand the situation and will wait to see who the new man is before making decisions about their futures. Pogba surely must be happy that Mourinho has gone, I'd imagine there will be a few others as well.

They are 6th in the league, 11 points off the top four and with the way the top 5 teams have been seeing off the other 14 teams I think that is a big enough gap to say they would need a miraculous second half of the season to overcome it. PSG in the CL as well so will be pretty big underdogs for that, I can see why they wanted to bring someone in who the whole club can get behind.

I just can’t comprehend a club of their stature and budget giving the job to someone who has achieved nothing in the game.

Sure, he played for them, and I did have a soft spot for him as a player so I’m sure the fans love him... but his managerial record is so below par <laugh>

I think it’s a bit of a joke appointment to, having said that it could be fun to watch them crumble even further.
