A senior EU source has told @rtenews that during a phone call at 12pm Brussels time Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker told Theresa May there would be no reopening of the Irish backstop or the Withdrawal Agreement.

Why should they the union is looking after their membership ?
Proud to believe in Europe but at the same time sincerely hoping to see it all fall down now

I see the EU are not budging. So do we do all this again in a couple of weeks???
Give them a bit of time and they will cave in. Now May can go back and say change the deal or it will be a no deal Brexit which neither side wants.
Forget muppets like Tusk/Junker/Barnier as soon as Merkel gets told by ministers in her country, she will tell the EU what to do.

Daily Mail headline ... great for Ellers good luck to him

Teressa’sTriumph

I think they left the words Herald,Spitfire or Acclaim off however

A better headline would be
Teressa’s bottom end has fallen out again

You are playing poker old kiddy
I hope you don’t hide when this goes tits up

Every commentator is saying this is a massive win for May and she is back in the driving seat where as you say different.

It's a win of sorts inasmuch as the Tory party is still in one piece, but I wouldn't say that being forced to vote against her own deal puts her in the driving seat, would you? We'll be back here in two weeks, after the EU have confirmed what May herself said two weeks ago...…

“No such alternative deal exists. The political declaration sets the framework for the future relationship, and the next phase of the negotiations will be our chance to shape that relationship. But we cannot begin those talks unless or until we agree the terms of our withdrawal. The European Union will not agree to any other deal for that withdrawal.”

……..and she will have to face more amendments - with the same or similar proposals likely to be put before MPs - after having been further humiliated by Brussels.

Expect more defeats next time.

. I want to debate with forward thinking people.

I don't think you ever really 'debate' Ellers, it's mostly ill-placed mockery and name-calling.

You really don't understand what happened today do you? All of your EU loving stance has today gone down with the Cooper amendment.
you say:
It's not even close to over, pal. They'll do all this again in two weeks time after the EU have told May to **** off and it'll be a lot different. All May has done today is waste more time.
Bill Cash says "it was written in parliamentary law that we leave on March 29th The other amendment is not important as it's not legally binding and will not determine anything".
mmm TBH I would listen to him before you. cheers

Good old SNP. 39 votes..That's them /Lucas and plaid. <laugh>

It really has gone bad for 'remoan central'? After all the project fear this week with food shortages and all the other organised rubbish. TM can now go back and EU and say "we now have a majority that you asked for....drop the backstop"! It will then be up to the EU.

Plus... I am sure the Irish will want a deal.

The EU won't cave in, that's wishful thinking on your part. It's people like Theresa May who cave in as we just witnessed, scrapping her own deal. Why are you so sure that the leading food outlet stores and fast food shops are talking rubbish ? Yet believe a handful of rouge politicians? That is a genuine question Ellers. In my opinion I think this whole fiasco was about self preservation of the Tory party and nothing to do with the good of the country. Oh how we are governed. Strong and stable, weak and totally unbalanced. It's ok for these guys to keep voting until they get the answer they like!!! What would really help after that ammendmant was won would be someone to give us an example of the alternative to an Irish border. Anyone got any ideas? No wonder we are the laughing stock of the world.

Ellers about to feel the power of the EU imo

Hope he has the scope to understand that now
They have always been united and we are the absolute mockery what’s more we have a nation divided

french running German orders and of course project fear

Remoaners told you this and have continued to state fact yet nothing accepted or considered

Anyone supporting Conversative today in this moment should savour it because it’s time to really see the delusions at last

The leave vote accelerated however not from the EU it’s now leave the U.K.

bob under your veiled comments it has been evident for some time that you are a remainer and a labour supporter who dislikes the Tories. You are not fooling anyone with your "i don't really know" comments. You were found out a long time ago.
That aside.
The EU now has 2 options, the renegotiate or we leave on WTO on March 30th. That was confirmed by many in the last few hours. The EU is running scared because they don't want us to leave. Germany, France, Italy, Greece and co are not doing too well and if we left on WTO it would cripple the EU and the Euro. I even posted facts about the Irish economy yesterday who will basically go into recession if it was a no deal.

Even today I heard one German MEP saying the way forward is another referendum and that they have been talking to an MP here (I wonder who that was)? The interviewer said "but we had a referendum and there is no appetite for another one" The MEP insisted there should be another one. The interviewer then said "say the result was in favour of remain 52/48 what about the divisions"? The MEP said "then you remain and that's it". They couldn't give a toss about us other then us staying in this dying union.

After all the threats by the EU and the fact that it's proved time and time again that you cannot barging with the EU. Some people are still hellbent on trying to remain in this gangster club. Maybe if some had heard the radio phone that I did last night they would have heard many callers saying how they have changed their opinion of the EU with they way they keep shutting the door in our face.

Well, they now have 2 choices and they better start moving otherwise they will have to start supporting the 20 odd crap countries. See you there.

PS... As one MEP has just said "what they say in public is different to what they say behind the scenes".

I'm not here to fool anyone Ellers, nor have I been hiding to then be found out! Where you get those presumptions from only you know. The EU are running scared......really? What a load of rubbish. They have been the strong negotiators and we are a little island running scared. Look at the state of our politics just to see that. Take your blinkers off for a moment.

There are 3-4 of them on here that stick together and 'like' each others posts even when they are wrong. They are the last of the Euro lovers who couldn't accept the result of the vote. Even after last nights Cooper defeat and I said it was 'game over' I got this as the first part of a reply <doh>
It's not even close to over, pal.
It's like they want our country to fail FFS. The enemy within.
