Sandy--the restaurant you mean is called "Wong Kei" (Wonky is a good translation) and it occupies a former theatrical costumier in Wardour street. The food was quite good, but as you say the service was appalling . When you had finished your meal the waiters would approach shouting "you go now" .But if you are tempted to go to enjoy the theatricality of the service, then think again. We stopped going when I met a waiter coming out of the gents loo.... sufficient to say the soap in the loo was still dry....

COYH Rocker as a guess (me too:))
Zen no proper footy this weekend ,so a bit of topical debate??
Leo ...best way ;) although I might have had a word in northolts shell like<laugh>
Hornette bet you was a cool rock chick;)

Afternoon all - and a very pleasant afternoon in bandit country. Some good news in the budget...one of my sons might be able to get some help with a deposit on a house.

Sad news that Elizabeth Taylor has popped her clogs - she always had a certain "something" about her..:emoticon-0111-blush

Ooh Roger, i used to love going to Wong Kei, that was even worse service than in Blooms lol. People only went there for the abuse, is it still there?

Norway - i couldn't possibly comment! lol

Aww, i hadn't heard about Liz Taylor..great shame...she always seemed so sad...

Roger / Hornette

Can't believe that others on here knew about Wong Kei's and the service. Haven't been there for years, would love to find out if it's still going.

I seem to remember there being tables in all manner of random places (eg stairwells) <laugh>

Sandy - lmao! Yes, the were everywhere! It had loads of floors and was always packed to the rafters! Not the sort of place to go for a romantic meal or a Saturday evening with friends...unless you had somewhere else to go before or afterwards! lol

For a football forum this site goes off in the most delightful tangents.:cheesy:

I simply mentioned Blooms when talking about Mr. B. and his mother and it has spawned a whole new world of restaurant memories.:emoticon-0103-cool:

Love it.:emoticon-0100-smile

Hi all The reason I haven't been on here much is because of all the work I've had. An earthquake may provide a holiday but the deadlines don't change!
Iwent to the Chinese restaurant you have been discussing, with a friend who was English but spoke fluent Cantonese or Mandarin (can't remember which). He translated what the waiters were saying about the customers. Their rudeness in English was nothing compared with what they said when the customers didn't understand, which, in turn, paled with what they said when they discovered my friend could understand them.

I only went there once. When I wanted rude service I used to go to Jimmy's, a Greek restaurant in Frith St in Soho.

I can't believe a Kiwi has been to restaurants in London that I had not even heard of - where was my mis-spent youth spent?

Just read that Fred Titmus the ex england and middlesex cricketer ( who sadly died today) Once played for Watford and had also been on The books at Chelsea. Does anyone have any memory or detail of his time at the Vic.

lol yes Norway, definitely! On 606, i'd post something on a match thread for example, and 30 seconds later we'd score, or they would..or something would happen i'd want to post about..and by the time i got to post the moment had passed! lol..sods law..and very annoying ;)

NZ - hmm, there was a Jimmys in Edgware, not sure i remember the one in Frith Street. i used to work in soho square :). lol..that must have been funny...at Wong Kei!
