Don’t forget Cocken Lodge near Finchale. That has a driving range and a 9 hole course which is ok if you want to start golfing again.
That looks good, 20 minutes away and only 9 holes so the lad can have a go as well

It’s usually in good condition by reports but like I say I haven’t been there for a while. There will probably be a few shorter holes which will help ya lad gain a bit of confidence and he won’t feel like it’s a slog all the time.

The one thing the pro at the club we went to was impressed how far our lad could hit a ball. Little ****e always has had great hand eye coordination and a natural ability with certain things.

At golf he just picked up a club and a couple of instructions later he was hitting the ball a fair way, he tried archery (firdt time ever) at a school fair and the bloke in charge asked if he had had lessons or done it before.

That’s youth for you. Get him involved he will enjoy it.

Hopefully, he's gone into his shell a bit since Covid hit, then had hge bullying issues at school that has knocked his confidence.

I'm hoping now we have moved home that he will start getting out and about more and get back to himself

Bullying a pet hate of mine. Grandson went through the same. He’s fine now. Hope all goes well for the lad and he enjoys a bit of golf or whatever he decides to do.

Playing with some Sunderland old boys tomorrow,

Dick Malone, Michael Horswill, Cecil Irwin, Ritchie Pitt, Peter Stronach, Martin Smith, Jimmy Shoulder, Nick Pickering and Barry Siddall.

A good way to prepare for the evening match.

What did you think of Westwood wanting to take part in the new 'Saudi' tournaments?
Not sure what to make of it…. But on the face, Westwood won’t win a major… he is in the twilight of his career and his potential earnings will become limited. So to go after the Saudi makes a bit of sense… BUT…. It will almost certainly cost him the chance to captain the Ryder Cup team anytime in the near future

Garcia has spat the dummy too after being penalised for taking too long to find his ball

Played seaton Carew last night and it was brutal with only light winds. I couldnt get off the tee and resorted to hitting 4 iron to keep in play. Ended up losing my match on the 18th. I'm still not sold on the coure and think its a tad overrated.
