I'm happy with my approach play and putting for my level of interest, but driving has been a huge problem. Tempted to go to the range tonight.
Well I'm aching after 180 balls. What have I learnt? No more driving unsupervised, I clearly need correcting. And the other is that I'm not slicing with anything other than those long handled drivers. Pint now before home Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
If you’re right-handed, try ‘flattening’ your right hand at address , so it stops you from opening up the club face on impact ( and swinging too far back). Bit late for that advice, mind so enjoy your pint instead! Or try a 2-iron / driving iron. I hit mine far more consistently than a driver (esp if i’m not playing regularly), as the swing is the same as my mid-long irons.
I've done the driving irons for years. Time to learn with the big boy club. Lol. Thought I was replicating what I've been shown but clearly I haven't. I'll get my mate out with me next time. Sent from my Moto G (5) using Tapatalk
I took my PW too. fly through the balls when you're chipping, you don't need to bend down for a start.
Try taking your full bag next time Bri and starting with your wedges, move up through your irons to your woods and driver. You should be fully flexed out by then to go with your drivers
And you probably know this already but as you move through your clubs the ball should be moving slightly forward in your stance
Didn't know that. Sounds like a proper coaching exercise of which I've had none yet. Cool i'll look for some youtube examples and take my full set next time and give it a go. Cheers fella.
I usually start with my 7-iron, ball in the middle of my feet, and start warming up into my long irons shifting my stance accordingly. Then down to short irons and wedges before I start slapping the big boy about. Then off to the chipping green (if I’ve got time), then on to putting.
On tight courses I just stick with them, i’m not playing anywhere near as much as I used to so driver a bit of a liability unless I can use adjacent fairways.... for a bit of army golf. I can hit my 2-iron consistently between 250-280 off the tee, so it doesn’t mess with my score too much. I’ve subsequently got better at hitting greens with mid-long irons... Keep on at it. I’m looking forward to some winter golf for the first time in about 12 years..
I played Ramside a couple of weeks ago and, for the first 6 holes, used my 3 wood on all the longer holes as my driver, much the same, is normally a liability. Round was going very badly so I got my driver out on the 7th and planted it miles down the middle of the fairway - shot exactly like I used to play when I was out regularly - lovely little draw and it ran forever. I hit it on every longer hole after that and got the same result. Short game was awful mind so my round was a nightmare - but at least the shots people see mostly looked nice!!!
Wow, I only hit around 200 off my driving irons. I know it's not very far but i'm a learning novice. Hitting it where I want it to go is my priority.
