Just arrived back to Abu Dhabi after 10 days in the UK for Xmas....not sure why but I took my clubs across in the hope of getting a round or two in. The only game I played was in Knotty Hill, admittedly the rain was coming down horizontally but the course was appalling. I assume it must be so much better in the summer as with all the courses to chose from I am struggling to understand why anyone would pay good money to play there.
Anyone think Europe will lift the Ryder Cup......My heart says yes...but looking at their team, my head says no chance.
I think its evens. Everyone in the press, and the bookies all have the americans as firm favourites. I think it'll be very close, much closer than what the press are saying.
Just bought a set of clubs to play with one of my best mates. Unfortunately his wife and child is facing possible deportation from this horrible country so he may have to go back to NZ with them obviously so may never get to swing a club with him again. He's a lefty, I can play with his clubs too, cant work out which I best with though. I can't drive left or right handed. keep slicing it, can position myself to hit fairways, providing of course they dog paw to the right. lol.
Knotty Hill is a poor course at the best of times. The guys who own it have added 18 more holes over the last couple of years - it's like 6 9 hole courses and they send you out on the 2 which they'll open! (I know this is an old post but thought I'd give you my ten pence worth!) A and B are the best two courses and they're a below average 18 holes - and it just goes downhill from there. You'd be better off playing Mount Oswald - and it's got houses on now!!
Worst thing in the world when you do manage to hit one straight though!! Mate of mine used to do that and managed to hit one clean as a whistle straight and headed straight for a house. Missed the widows like and bounced clean off the side of it.
That used to be me then I got some lessons of the club pro at Durham! Awful for 3 months then started hitting the ball lovely - sadly that was 12 years ago and I've had around 8 rounds since!!
Haven't played since October last year due to an elbow injury, now raring to go and can't wait. As for the Ryder Cup; it will take a great effort for the Europeans to beat a very strong USA team. We've got some players coming into form, Rose Mcillroy and Molinari. Garcia's form is going the wrong way but feel with he'll partner Mcillroy and come good.
On my last visit I played my old course ...Ramside. Facilities there now match anywhere, Great course...infact both courses are excellent, clubhouse is good as well. I started off paying at Mount Oswald, its heartbreaking seeing it now..had some good days on that course.
I was a Durham City member for years - handicap down to single figures - then I met my now wife! The rest, as they say, is history. Play very little now - although I have a boss who arranges a lot of meetings at the Ramside clubhouse (as he's a member there) and he's well up for talking business on a golf course
Well it turns out i've been holding my woods all wrong. Been shown the correct way and it's bloody uncomfortable. Been shown some exercises to condition the appropriate muscles so need to hit the range now and practice practice practice.
Oh Finbarr Saunders would love that line!! I had exactly the same when I got my lessons from Durham pro. Felt awful at first then, around 3 or 4 weeks later it just started working! Was really weird
Yeah I'm lacking the flexibility to bring my arm tight across my chest. It's going to be sore at first.
Its all about practice Brian...Golf is a very technical game and to get a few lessons then practice until your muscles memorise the actual stroke you're trying to play. I'm lucky over here with the weather so I can play a few times a week, but even just going to the driving range..you will surprised how quick your scores will come down with practice. Someone once called the great Jack Nicklaus a "Lucky golfer" his response " the more I practice, the luckier I become"
There are, no doubt, better golfers than I, on here however my recommendation is to practice, practice, practice. The mechanics of the swing will become more familiar and your body will get used to changes relatively quickly, although you’ll initially play far worse, and improvements will happen. Most of all, I hope you’re enjoying it!
