Hunslet 7065 80-tonne 776hp Hunslet 0-8-0 diesel hydraulic '172' (works No.7065 built in 1971) waiting for a load at the weighbridge at British Steel Co Tinplate, Ebbw Vale Steelworks on 20th April 1990. A sister locomotive, 170, can now be found on the Pontypool and Blaenavon Railway.
No 7071 at Stratford........... Between 1884 and 1886, Worsdell had 40 tank locomotives built for the Great Eastern Railway for passenger service, which were called class M15. This first batch got Joy valve gear and due to their high consumption, they got the nickname “Gobblers”. Holden made 120 more between 1903 and 1909, which received Stephenson valve gear for lower fuel consumption. Many were fitted with a condensing gear for London traffic.
7075 is one of the highest strength aluminum alloys available Its strength-to weight ratio is excellent and it is ideally used for highly stressed parts. It may be formed in the annealed condition and subsequently heat treated. Spot or flash welding can be used, although arc and gas welding are not recommended.
On the weekend of September 7th-8th, 2013, the Iowa Interstate Railroad brought out their Chinese QJ 2-10-2 steam locomotive #7081 once again, for a series of excursions on the railroad, between Geneseo and Annawan, IL on the 7th, and between Tiskilwa and Sheffield, IL on the 8th. The engine ran on many round trips between the towns each day. Before and after the weekend of excursions, Iowa Interstate ran 7081 on a number of deadhead moves from the QJ's base in Newton, Iowa.
