Found an article linking Fonte with Liverpool and Palace (though I feel dirty even posting it). The article even mentions that we have a CB problem, so not sure why we would sell another one. It suggests he is available for the right price, presumably if we sign Van Dyke, but would we sell? I suppose he is at the age for a last move, but selling him would suggest that money is everything as it wouldn't be for a footballing reason. Not reassured by his recent change of agent.

Step in any time you like to tell me this won't happen. :(

On a transfer subject a spurs fan here has said Newcastle won't pay what QPR want for Austin so spurs are trying to buy him this week.
Silly Newcastle if true.

Ashley has previous here. Pardew said recently that players were bought for club reasons and not for team reasons at Newcastle. They suggest on Sky that Ashley was giving more backing to McClaren....but perhaps not.
 
We're light on quality at the back. We have one proven CB of consistent PL standard (Yoshida doesn't fill me with confidence and Caulker scares the hell out of me). Fonte is our captain. Why in God's name would we even think of selling the one constant in the last 2 seasons rock solid defence? Please stop being silly.

Perhaps he changed his agent because the new agent has better contacts in Portugal/Spain, for his final fling??

He may have changed agents for a whole number of reasons, possibly not even football related. Not worth speculating as we have no basis. The move doesn't make sense for the club or player. He has played for Palace before and played under Pardew, could just be lazy journalism at its finest.

Yes

If we decided that Bolaise would add something to our attack (and I think he would), then we would play him and benefit from him.

If we didn't, we could sell him to Spurs for the rumoured £20m price tag, and then use that money to replace Fonte and make another signing too (maybe a Cork replacement, or a better Davis). We could never get £20m for Fonte.
