If we didn't, we could sell him to Spurs for the rumoured £20m price tag, and then use that money to replace Fonte and make another signing too (maybe a Cork replacement, or a better Davis). We could never get £20m for Fonte.

A better Davis = Sigurdsson.
 
So after today's PL opener, is there an area that you feel we need to strengthen before the end of the window, other than the obvious CB? CM for me. I have faith in Victor and Davis playing a defensive role, but none of our others can do that. Someone like Alex Song would be ideal I think - can play the holding role, but can also play a fair bit too.
 
Need another defensive midfielder, so that Davis can play in a more advanced position. I know some don't like him, owing to the fact that he doesn't score goals, but as we saw first half today, there was no one, in the advanced midfield position to receive the ball and hold it up. Hence the reason for it coming back all the time.
He also acts as a defensive block in front of the defensive midfielders, making their job easier.

Yes, in Tadic, Mane, Pelle and Jay we have players who are prone to losing possession. Sometimes those risks are necessary to create decent chances, but sometimes they're not the best things for that moment in the match.
I believe if we had Morgan/Vic/Davis for instance we would have kept the ball a lot better after getting our noses in front and tried to dictate the game more.

I expect Clasie to be a lot better, but we're going to get injuries and suspensions so another option would be preferred
