On a transfer subject a spurs fan here has said Newcastle won't pay what QPR want for Austin so spurs are trying to buy him this week.
Silly Newcastle if true.

 

Ashley has previous here. Pardew said recently that players were bought for club reasons and not for team reasons at Newcastle. They suggest on Sky that Ashley was giving more backing to McClaren....but perhaps not.

 

I rally don't think it will happen . Esp if the rumours about why pardew left us are true .....

 

Which they probably weren't....Fonte greeted Pardew quite happily when he returned to SMS.

 

My mate down the pub reckons it could be on as part of a player exchange. We let them have Jose and they give us their whole first team in exchange.

 

We're light on quality at the back. We have one proven CB of consistent PL standard (Yoshida doesn't fill me with confidence and Caulker scares the hell out of me). Fonte is our captain. Why in God's name would we even think of selling the one constant in the last 2 seasons rock solid defence? Please stop being silly.

 

I have hopes for Caulker...I think Saints can resurrect his career. The Black Box must feel he has the attributes....he just needs retraining. A few clips round the ear from Fonte and Koeman and he could be a handy addition.

 

And why would Jose want to go.

 

May not strictly want to, but could be his last chance of a payday. And why did he change his agent if he was just going to slide into retirement here. However, I doubt we can let him go now because of our lightness at the back.

 

Perhaps he changed his agent because the new agent has better contacts in Portugal/Spain, for his final fling??

 

He did mention once that his children are English, which suggests he may wish to make his base here. My idea of heaven moving between England and Portugal.

He may have changed agents for a whole number of reasons, possibly not even football related. Not worth speculating as we have no basis. The move doesn't make sense for the club or player. He has played for Palace before and played under Pardew, could just be lazy journalism at its finest.

 

Would you swap Fonte for Bolasie, hypothetically speaking...

Me, no? We have players of that type (he's good and I like him, but not priority position) We have only one Fonte type and probably already need another.

If we decided that Bolaise would add something to our attack (and I think he would), then we would play him and benefit from him.

If we didn't, we could sell him to Spurs for the rumoured £20m price tag, and then use that money to replace Fonte and make another signing too (maybe a Cork replacement, or a better Davis). We could never get £20m for Fonte.
