As a Saints fan, I would be all for signing Caulker as 4th choice CB. Serious CB depth.
But if I was Caulker, I would be very much against joining Saints as 4th choice CB. I've no doubt that there are PL sides lower down the league where he could be 2nd or 3rd choice CB.

Agreed. In fact I wonder whether any proven Premier League players at all would be satisfied signing to be 4th choice. And of those who would, are they gonna be a better option than Stephens? I'm not so sure.

Caulker has proven he is good when he plays alongside a leader. He would do well with Fonte.

Will do him far more good than hanging around the fringes at Southampton. Gives him a chance to prove himself. Does demonstrate how much harder it will be for our youngsters to go straight into the first team now...may be the long term plan to accommodate youngsters, but will only happen now for the very best. Some (who may be later developers) will be better out on loan at carefully selected clubs.Manager Ronald Koeman is convinced the youngster can still have a future at St Mary's but believes a season of regular football will benefit Gallagher.
