If anything, I'd like a backup forward that can replicate Pelle's style, as I don't think we really have someone else like him. We're fine up top though, CB/CM and a squad player like Elia would make a very positive window.

Long makes a pretty damn good targetman when he's asked to play that way

Sure, he's absolutely our backup for that role, and I always forget he's an option there having played off of Pelle so much!

I know what you mean! Wins more in the air than Pelle though and probably better at holding the ball up. Not quite so good as the first time over-the-shoulder type balls as Pelle though who I think has a better visualisation of where people are on the pitch

I'd argue we don't need him enough to justify his fee. Elia would be a small fee, Levy wants £10m for Townsend.
But Elia has proven that he hasn't got what it takes to cut it in the EPL, why would you want him regardless of his cost.
Townsend has proven he has the ability at club and international levels but not consistently under AVB and Poch but RK has proven to be a very good coach

he is a flash in the pan. I wouldn't want either. we need players who are consistent all the time regardless of who the coach is, like Fonte! Not a player who will play amazingly under Koeman and then disappear when ron (eventually) leaves for pastures new.

Have you ever seen a consistent winger? (apart from Ryan Giggs)

There seems to be a notion on this message board that Pelle is somewhat average in aerial duels, when the official end of season stats clearly show that he won the most aerial duels then any player bar Benteke.

I make a point of never placing to much faith in stats, when was the last time you saw Pelle dominate to center half in the air?
