My shirt has the number 20 on the back of it. Thankfully it doesn't have the weasel's name above the number. My opinion: BOOOOOOOOOOO
Why are we relatively sanguine about Rickie moving to the same club as Adam? It's a valid question as nobody saw SRL moving from Saints at the end of the season so it was a shock. We accepted it because it was his home team, and he only had a couple of years left, despite the fact that Rickie has been so fulsome in his praise of SFC and most of us imagined him seeing out his years here. What is different in Adam's case? The main similarity is that in both cases the moves for them were unexpected (at the seasons start) but the difference is that because Adam is our Captain he is expected to do a Le Tiss and stay. In terms of Shaw, we only have the reports that he wanted a move, so how is that different to Adam? It seems that the board were happy to sell Shaw but more reluctant to sell Lallana. In what way does that make him less loyal?
If it helps with the pain most of us feel you've taken us to the cleaners with this deal. #disappointed
To be honest with you CF, the difference between my go-with-best-wishes-Rickie, attitude and being slightly pissed off with Adz is very thin indeed. Although I wish Rickie well, I still would much rather the chap never even looked towards Liverpool, and I'd rather it was him with the injury so that Liverpool would have had no interest in him. I'm selfish about our players, because they have been with use through the crucial years. So when I wish Rickie well, it is through gritted teeth, because I can't not like the lad and I wanted him to stay. Adam doesn't have that bullet proof humble personality to be liked. The more I think about it the more I think... yeah, just go, Mr Southampton. That will pass, and one day I'll be able to look at both players' videos of them playing and scoring for Saints. Not at the moment though. Nor for a long while, I'm thinking. Shaw is just too young to leave any impression. He said on more than one occasion that he was keeping himself grounded and that his future was at Saints for a few years at least. Then he jumped at the first decent opportunity. One connecting tissue to all that was the England squad. One just can't help thinking that there was some major sales talk going on there.
Ok. For me, it was because of what he stood for, who he is, what he has said, how he has grown with us and probably because of the fact that he has been apart of us so long and maybe about to hit his prime. In my mind Rickie is at the very end of his value to us (I had envisioned him playing less next year and thus his 'value' to us was short term). Luke has been here briefly (professionally) and when the noises about him came out alongside the suggested fees, it made some sense; I could see him out growing Saints soon. Him signing a long contract with us, I saw as protection. Adam, I felt hadn't out-grown us and wasn't likely to soon. His value to us was immense; he was our captain, our leader and Mr Southampton amongst the players. His signing of the 5 year contract I saw as what he really wanted. I read a story (I know it may not be true) that he had to be persuaded to stay in January, just 6 months after wanting to retire with us. He was more one of us than the other two and I just feel that he appears to have given up on us far too hastily and I can't help but wonder how the move came about; who fluttered their eye lids at who first?
The whole thing is odd. The Reds in my family texted me about Rickie. I was shocked but soon thought it was great for him. Got a text tonight about Adam and simply thought "fiuck him". Difference? All the bloody tweets and weasel words from AL. Little Luke, bless him, has appeared lily-white in public. He's got a chance to play for one of the biggest club in the world and has taken it. Good luck to him. Lallana has been responding to tweets from Liverpool fans saying he hoped to join - totally unprofessional. So let's find a decent striker; we may have a replacement for Luke; now we just need a twat in midfield to replace Lallana.
Reminds me of the old chant. Will fit in nicely when Liverpool come to Saint Marys. Its nice to know you're here It's nice to know you're here It's nice to know you're here NOW... ****... OFF...
Adam will be found out next season. Last season was his "peak" in a Saints shirt. He won't fit in at Liverpool, their system won't work to his advantage, he won't get enough game time, it won't work out. At least he'll earn a few extra bob though. **** off Adam, I had your number when I saw those FCUK photos, stupid bearded prick.
I hope he's bloody awful for Liverpool and they sell him back to us for £1.5m with his tail firmly between his legs.
The more my suspicion grows that there's been some massive schism between board and players which has made them all want out, the less angry I am at those who have gone/ are going.
On the plus side, a fantastically talented player with a great first touch, skill, and vision. On the negative side, dives a lot, has a **** beard, and has proved Mark Clattenburg right. Thanks for the entertainment Adam. All the best you little prick, hope you finish fifth.
I agree with OT. I don't care about his petty behaviour. He is a footballer, employed to play as well as he can to benefit the team he plays for. And he has certainly done this. He has done an immense job, and I have enjoyed so many of the things he has done for us on the pitch. What a joy of a player to watch!!! One of my all time favourite Saints. And I wish him all the best for whatever he decides to do. All the moaners need to be realistic. Saints will never be a top European club - fact. I think it is really ungrateful to not offer gratitude to Adam. If he ever gets booed by our fans, I will be f**king embarrassed. EDIT - Having said all this, I must admit that I haven't been chasing every little thing that he has been tweeting etc. Cos I've got a life.
