Cant Walton street just be tarmaced and and serve as a car park to the stadium and new developments on the other bits of land around the stadium under the condition this car park would be closed for the 2 weeks duration of Hull fair?...win win for all surely?.

The issue is that the two parties will never negotiate. If the new owner has similar ideas of expansion and development then it's something to talk about, but it's extremely unlikely that any discussions between them and the council would go the same way Allam's did.
There's far too much focus on the fair here and not enough on the size of the offer Allam(s) made for the stadium.

I don't actually think there's much conflict in what either party has said, each has just put a different spin on it.
It sounds to me that back of *** packet Allam expected a contribution for redevelopment however in lieu of said contribution he said they could give him the freehold for the stadium.
Its a sound principle but one which if our marketing and fans liaison are anything to go by, will have been executed poorly.
There is massive potential for the site and local authorities are tying up deals with leisure providers/academy schools to improve facilities all over the country. They could even put it around the city centre like Manchester does with the Christmas markets, use it as the start to the late night shopping period.

It would be much better around the city centre with some places still open, at least the area would take some of the cash rather than it all getting driven away in vans and getting spent on new caravans/tarmac/stealing equipment.
Exactly. We all agree I think, that all parties involved acted less than good. It's just the degrees and expectations we have that differ on each side.
I still think HCC are duty bound to act in the tax payers interests and should therefore have put more effort into the whole thing.
The city centre has no site anywhere near big enough, unless the fair was made dramatically smaller.
Having just looked at the size of the Walton Street site, there's very few potential sites that are big enough, I'd say Pickering Park probably looks the best option (though I believe some of the rides need hard standing, so would have to be binned).
That didn't technically stop him making an offer for the stadium, but I take your point though.

There are solutions available, that could make the Stadium complex more viable and could attract investment and regeneration to the area.
