And if we don't,they get the extra time,so lose lose? Call me old fashioned,a traditionalist who doesn't want to move with the time but I see it as further sanitation and tinkering of football in general. Each to their own, absolutely, but I'm not in favour of 6 minutes and 9 minutes of added time(examples based on tonights game but games have the possibility to go on even longer than that). As selfish as it seems,it's all about timings(especially with away support). I've seen myself having(through finances or it being the quickest way to get 'home') to book the 17.15 from Hull to York to catch the connection North.I can leave the stadium at 16.50-16.55 and get to Paragon in time but if games are running on longer....North East/North West games will be no different. As I say,it's probably classed as selfish but there will be others affected and who knows,it could possibly affect away support by all teams?
Usually get the 6.15 from Paragon so no issue on a Saturday, but may well become a problem for evening games, trying to catch the 10.30. Away games who knows. I'm booked on the 5.30 from Norwich tomorrow so fully expecting to miss the end
Yeah - that having to leave early to get the last train thing is gonna be a bit more of a consideration. If you get caught in a crowd and can't power walk it/jog it in 20 mins you're potentially in trouble with later finish times. Hopefully train time-tabler's will take note eventually, but the bastards never really did in the past so here's hoping. Haha!
And this is exactly the dilemma I'm facing. If games are going to 'drag on' and the end of games are being 'missed' on a regular basis, how long before some of us just say '**** it' I'll give it a miss?
I hate missing even a few seconds of a game. If there's a chance I'm going to miss the start or the end I don't bother. Wouldn't have bought a Norwich ticket if I'd known about these changes when they went on sale
Maybe a solution might be 7.30 as opposed to 7.45 evening kickoff times to compensate? I noticed one had been shifted already and I wondered if it was to do with the time added thing.
I completely get your POV and where you're coming from, but on the other hand I'd rather see more of the ball in play at matches, if that means they last a little longer ( most games see 5/6 mins added in the second half ) tonight's had 9 and was it 6? In the first half ( I'd say last season was maybe 3/4 at most ). So 8 ish minutes difference.... I know that makes a difference in your situation and you'd probably leave early, but you've still seen the vast majority of the game. Wouldn't you rather see most of it as opposed to none of it by not going? ( I know it's probably different to what I've done above due to second half starting later due to added first half time, but I'm tired haha )
I remember flying down to Wembley for the Sheff Weds play-off and I'd booked to/from Heathrow but there was very little wiggle room.I kept thinking to myself 'what if it goes to extra-time'? I eventually convinced myself to book the overnight bus from Liverpool St Station just in case something went tits up.A hold up on the tube(can't remember what station) very nearly caused me to miss the flight. I made check in by 1 minute...
Maybe blame the players and managers for the delaying tactics. At the end of the day, we pay to watch football, not the ball off the pitch with players waiting a minute for a teammate to come to the ball from a throw in
Good point.Maybe the Football kick off times will accommodate for the changes,I don't think the rail companies will. Then again, there may be some people who finish work at 6 that won't welcome earlier kick -offs as they're already rushing around to get there. It's most probably a needless debate though anyway, the decision has been made and a few disgruntled fans will carry little or no weight..
I'm not keen on leaving games early at all,a lot can happen in that last 5 minutes...You've went all that way and you've missed the good bit? It's probably equivalent in real terms to a dry orgasm....Sorry ladies
Its train company discrimination. Pure and simple. Not only we middle aged have the occasional dry-nut (but it's usually cos she isn't trying hard enough and having given birth a couple of times not my fault lol) Now we have to miss out on the climax other ways too. It's an anti gammon conspiracy. Pure and simple haha!
Liam has obviously worked them hard in preseason to get their fitness levels up, which should also be beneficial towards the end of the game if the other teams are flagging a bit.
Apparently that is actually why the Bristol game has been changed to 7.30ko. Usually I can make it to work when on night shift if I miss injury time but with added on time I've no chance. Selfish maybe but everyone's circumstances are different, I'd just prefer the game to be played and the timewasting stopped as its a tactic just to upset the rhythm of the game, hopefully like Howden said it will stop them.
That is the simple solution and it works in rugby. It is exact to the second. Nothing to be gained from time wasting. I don't see any down side to it. Everyone in the stadium will know what time is left, what's not to like?
I'm all for the ref's clamping down on time-wasting and the like, but not the clock stopping every time the ball goes out of play, I don't want a situation where we end up playing an hour each half.
I don't mean this to be too dismissive, but I think it's a logical stretch to want football's rules to be designed to fit the specific itineraries of individual fans. For every fan who'll miss his last train due to games lasting 100 minutes instead of 90 (for simplicity's sake), there'll be another who could've made his train all these years if only games lasted 80 minutes. But it'd be ridiculous to say we should shorten games so that more people can make the last train, wouldn't it?
