20 pot shots nowhere near the goal all from outside the box, as for the 6 on target I'm struggling to remember them, keeper hasn't really had a save to make, 2nd goal was the first bit of quality play with an end product.
9 more minutes of added time, it's ridiculous, should just cut out the time wasting etc in the first place they will have played nearly 20 extra mins tonight
They are obviously trying, 2 bookings tonight for time wasting and one if those was very early in the game and the keeper got booked much earlier then he would have last season. I'm glad they are putting the amount of added time they are. I'm there to watch football not players stood around
That's the point though. In previous years they haven't as the ball was in play on average about 50 mins
I totally agree something needs to be done, but as Howden mentioned how long will it last? Its bollox 6 mins added 1st half half and they played over 7 2nd half 9 mins and they played bang on 9. It didn't last in the world Cup and won't last this season either.
Regarding the time-wasting, wouldn’t it be better to stop the clock whenever the ball isn’t in play? What would be the pros and cons of that compared to stoppage time added on at the end of each half?
I've always thought the time keeping should be done of field by someone else and stopped etc every time the ball isn't in play
It didn't last at the world cup because teams did adjust. It's the right thing to do. Teams will just have to adjust
I guess it's just easier to add it on than stop it altogether. I'm not sure why it's an issue for people that the game will go on longer. I've seen a few people saying that. Don't they enjoy watching football?
That's obviously the point of adding it on. If it gets added there's no point wasting time so players will adjust.
If they do that they should reduce the game to 30 minute halves. The ball is out of play for a huge amount of time.
Southampton looked very good and their stats at the end show utter domination, record-breaking at this level. It's not a coincidence when a team with that much possession gets a late goal. It's interesting to see how good a Russell Martin team can be with a good quality squad. He always had Swansea playing tidy stuff but with nowhere near the quality of player Southampton have.
Soton really set up shop after the second goal, wonder if that's going to be a feature of their play because I could see them getting stung with it.
And also, these timing changes could really help City this season. All those draws last season where we just couldn't find a winner against a tight defence; if they're forced to play closer to a full 90 minutes whilst we're dominating the ball, those late winners like Southampton got tonight, as the opposition tires, become all the more likely.
I think it will benefit teams that play like City. We just saw Southampton tire Wednesday out by just keeping the ball
