I think concerns are valid personally as per my posts on this page. We have no depth in key positions. The season starts in 3 days. We bad tackle or turn and we have no striker again.

I do think we will get the striker we are after but as usual it's taking time.
Not going to ask for names or out but the striker we’re after is he to be a starter or another hemir type? Played some first team football but one to develop?

That sounds familiar, have we ever tried that approach and if so how did we get on?<laugh>

Bob has suddenly decided he is going to blast the whole running of the club. Personally I always wonder what sets that off, as he states he knows basically all of them<confused>

He hasn't suddenly decided it mate...he's been critical of the management on and off for some time. He's only ever optimistic in small doses before reverting to his scepticism. Why,I've no idea. Some of the criticism is justified....our off field operations have been very poor under Davison, which now seems to be addressed, but our player management has,on the whole, been excellent, and I think most fans agree that our prospects for the future look more rosy than at any time for well over a decade. Yes,we have two or three positions we still need to sort, but, we've come a long way in a relatively short period of time and if we have another season of playing our exciting football, whilst continuing to build and consolidate,so be it.

I do not think it's that, I think certain points are being made and they are valid. We tried to play a second string, some of these plays are on the cusp of our first team and will be required in a tough championship campaign. To get absolutely whooped off a conference team is alarming and shows that some of these plays are not ready.

There is no doubt we need a greater level of experience and quality in the squad. Especially in striker and DM positions.
Nobody has to play a whole 2nd 11 in the league. That doesn't mean that when a few are played they won't fit in well during the season. I don't see a depth problem apart from with strikers which will either be resolved or adapted to as Mowbray did very well last year.

I’d say our number one priority was another quality striker. Hemir has it in his locker but isn’t it yet. For all the good as the season kicks off we’ve failed. If it lands a few a few days later fair enough but I’m yet to be convinced that we’re willing to pay the money that will get us up.

To be fair we don't actually know that about him or Mayenda, they might fit straight in.

And it's OK saying we need to replace Stewart but what happens if he decides to stay.

Negativity already, the season hasnt even started yet!!!!

As ive mentioned before the benefit of signing young players is they should improve yr on yr (i know it doesn't always happen like that). So therefore the likes of hume cirkin ballard patto neil ekwah n clarke will be better this season than last.

Yes we need to add depth to the squad and the club know that just as much as us. Its not as simple as that though, PL sides arent loaning our their best young players just yet n teams normally drive a high price around this point. No point just signing players for the sake of it just for a better option to come available later in the window.

Folk saying the championship is tougher this yr, its like that every single season. Yes on paper it looks harder but 3 quality championship teams went up. Yes luton arent a big club but theyve got to the playoffs 2 seasons on the bounce so was no fluke them going up.

Still just under a month to go so still time to bring in those other positions we need

TM will make suggestions on the players he wants but if our data n recruitment team dont believe they arent worth signing then we shouldnt sign them. The only way we get long term success is through our recruitment n data teams

It's an interesting one isn't it. He knows he his head coach and not manager. He knows it's not his job to sort the players but, here is the key bit, he constantly mentions it. It definitely does irk him, no way about it. That's why he keeps bringing it up.

There is some serious work needed to be done to ensure we are competing at the top 6 end of the league, this season IMO. Expecting a 19 year old who hasn't played much senior football at all to lead the line, is a silly ask. It is essential they key this striker over the line. Asap too. No more bull, waiting till deadline day then rolling out the excuses. Comes a time when that's past and it just has to get over the line.

CDM is essential too.

It's also about replacing the people they want rid of. Could be a lot leave before window closes.

I think pretty much every British "head coach" over the age of 45 wants to be the manager and pick all the players. It's been the traditional way of doing things here much longer than it has elsewhere in the world. I think a lot of our fans are still old school in that thought process too tbh.

Personally though, I never want to see us go back to that model again. The game is global these days and requires more than a couple of trusty scouts and the manager finding the right players.

I'm a little apprehensive about the strength in depth at CDM particularly but also with the striker position and also that "X factor" in attack that we had with Amad last year.

The squad is bloated though, as well. We need to be more ruthless in moving some players on. We also need to be mindful of how quickly players who are "prospects" can contribute. A player like Lihadji is a waste of a shirt in my opinion. If he's not demanding that first team spot at 21 years old, he's a blocker for someone else. Ba and Bennette both have to step up and contribute this season too. We can't be spending money on players that only become first team regulars in their 3rd or 4th season.

I think there's a danger of a slight regression season this year, though I'd still say top 10 is likely. Playoffs remains to be seen. Automatic is unlikely because the relegated teams are the strongest we've seen possibly ever.

I think the recruitment team may have stepped outside their plans for Dack so they're not necessarily inflexible ...

... Mowbray knew 100% the set up before he agreed to become coach.

I don't see any major fault lines, every manager wants more, and better, players.

This all day, striker situation is complicated & not as simple as us signing 1 more, we currently have 3 strikers, only the club know progress on Stewarts injury, only club know if there is serious interest, it might be there isnt or isnt at a value we would sell for....it might be club are wanting to asses his injury in couple of weeks with the intention to keep him, if in couple of weeks they suspect he might not come back the same player, the striker deals they are looking at progress....the 2 lads we brought in, Hemir particularly will be expecting game time, if we go & sign a striker right now, presumably hes first choice, we will then potentially have 4, 1 being Stewart who club expect to make full recovery.

I dont think its panic stations yet, just needs to play out a little more, likely club trust Hemir to get us through first few games based in what they have see so far....if he gets injured we press that striker signing.... complicated & were a couple short.....all Championship teams are as effectively were waiting to most of the PL deals to be sorted first

Im still looking forward to an exciting season for the lads....KTF<laugh>

Canny post mate. Take a like.

Well we'll see soon enough.

Hard to go from the dross of the Parkinson times to borderline PL squad in less than three years without blasting gazillions about.

As for the midweek game, I didn't even look at the score. They mean nothing to me, win or lose. Especially when the side picked has never played before. But if there are lessons to be learned from it, that's the point of playing them.

We'll only know what shape we are in at the end of the Month. Certainly almost all other teams want and have a bit more strength, perhaps experience and depth up top than we have, and it's true that this has went on a long time, so it is reasonable to be expecting the matter to be sorted out. It would certainly be a failure of recruitment if it isn't. Probably another deep midfield player too.

But some will need to go. So it looks like we might have to wait for the trolley dash carry on for some of the movement necessary.

But as long as they are all at it, that's good enough for me. I'll just turn up and give mesell a bad throat.

Not sure what to expect , which is normal in this mental league. Upper mid table I'd say would be okay again, and maybe another sneak into the playoffs.

Sunderland have bids in for strikers with Tony Mowbray saying the club is 'close' to adding another attacking option. The Black Cats have brought in Portuguese teenager Hemir from Benfica over the summer but, with Ross Stewart expected to be sidelined until the end of September and his longer-term future still uncertain, Mowbray is wary of going into the season reliant on a 19-year-old who is still adapting to the English game. https://www.chroniclelive.co.uk/spo...erland-bids-close-landing-another-27447865?t=

69 points is not going to get you playoffs this year. So difficult to judge our progress in league position. 1.5 points per game was a good target and result for last season

Hopefully we could up that to 1.6/1.7 if our home form improves. I reckon we’ll struggle to match our away form as we’re more of a known quantity

This is ****ing ridiculous.

We've brought essentially players to cover all the positions we needed to. One of them has got injured.

We still have a few weeks left to get more in

LND was an inexperienced player when we got him for next to nothing, he did ok.

So why the complaining? We've got players in before the season starts. Something that has not happened before in recent memory

And those itk, tips about incoming players are appreciated, but overheard one sided remarks, that stir **** up for no reason is a waste of time and does no one any favours. Do that on twitter if you want the attention
