you have made some sobering points Bob but to say we are meandering into the new season after the transfers we already in place is a bit harsh, yes I somewhat agree with the whole RS situation but it may be that he wants a free transfer next year or it could be that no club is willing to take a risk on an injured player we as supporters just don't know the whole situation. Injuries apart we have 3 recognized strikers and a couple of young lads available, the squad depth looks good in most areas and if the recruitment is as good as previous ones then I hope we have a few more gems who will come to the fore this season. You mentioned earlier about the new guy coming in for commercial operations and I think this is a measured move by the club to ensure that we get the best commercial contracts for the club and better sponsors (Long term strategy) to me this is no surprise as our current kit deals have been looked at and changed and our sponsors are due to change soon which gives us a great chance to increase revenue to the club. I also think it was no coincidence that the club chose the area of the U.S they did as that is a huge market for a club like Sunderland to build a fan base.
For me we are not meandering but walking carefully but with purpose toward what I hope is a brighter future with some young and hungry players. I know that fans would like a statement signing and those days may come again and hopefully sooner rather than later but even in our current first team set if you were to put a value on a starting eleven now as opposed to 2 year ago I am pretty sure you would see a startling difference. That means that the club as an asset is worth considerably more than it was bought for, which in effect is a sign of the growth and investment.

Because thats the modern way and the exact way HE SIGNED UP FOR? If he doesn’t like it why on earth did he join? And if we sign 5 ‘Mowbray players’ and then we need to replace him halfway through the season the new head coach would have 5 players already he wouldn’t want to use?

And how on earth can we sort the RS situation? We can’t force him to sign a contract, we cant offer him a contract if we dont know how is injury is going to be long term, no team will give us a proper bid while he’s still recovering so what on earth do you want them to do?

I’d say our number one priority was another quality striker. Hemir has it in his locker but isn’t it yet. For all the good as the season kicks off we’ve failed. If it lands a few a few days later fair enough but I’m yet to be convinced that we’re willing to pay the money that will get us up.

I do. But given the time and lengths we have been short in that area, busting should be over. Should be sorted.

I would imagine every teams fans in the country are having the same conversations about squad depth and being short in positions.

A striker will come before deadline day, it's frustrating but because of the stupid way the window works amd an unfortunate injury we may have to play a few games without a back up to Hemir.

IF when the window shuts we still haven't addressed where we are short and apart from up front that's open to debate depending on your opinion on players and how we set up, then is the time to question imo

This. A wish list of 5 players shouldn’t be names, just a description of what’s needed. Recruitment team do the rest. What’s to say there aren’t better players than Mowbray names out there available for same or less money. Dack on a free fits bill of value for money, good character, known to Mowbray etc. so no doubt he’s the one from the list.

I mentioned the other day how a section of our fans lurch from one emotion to another in a heart beat depending on scorelines. Supporting Sunderland is not easy at the best of times, Our fortunes are up and down faster than a brides nightie....but a section of our fan base seem to enjoy this cheer then moan cycle...I simply do not understand this...yes, nothing wrong in raising concerns, we have all done it, But the same few seem to wait until a scoreline go against the team to start the negativity. It wouldn't be so amusing but this time its a preseason friendly FFS.

Hopefully all steps in the right direction. fans may see it as a sow process but from myself i think we have been moving fairly quickly and sometimes you just have to wait until the right people become available.

I still maintain that the Ross Stewart injury and subsequent lack of movement on sale or contract is what’s hampered us in the “bring a main striker in” argument.

However I also think bringing both Mayenda and Hemir in, in that case, was a mistake. As two younguns aren’t ideal. They both might turn out to be world beaters tho of course. All unknowns until we start playing.

We might be a fortnight away from forgetting all about desperately needing a “senior” striker if Hemir hits ground running.

And as much as I like Mowbray, with players he brought in at Blackburn he never finished in the play offs whereas here in one season with players he didn’t buy he got into the top 6

That sounds familiar, have we ever tried that approach and if so how did we get on?<laugh>

Bob has suddenly decided he is going to blast the whole running of the club. Personally I always wonder what sets that off, as he states he knows basically all of them<confused>

I’ll also add that the season starting up again, for all us passionate fans, is both an exciting and anxious time, whether people admit it or not.

People’s anxiety will manifest itself in different ways. Some will lean towards the excitement and ignore the shortcomings and show faith. Some will be nervous and put too much focus on what we don’t have.

neither approach is right or wrong. It’s all individual. And all of us will lean between them at different times.

    All that matters is results.

it’s why more people will lean towards the negatives after a loss, and the positives after a win.

none of it actually matters. Just the results. Us worrying on a message board won’t change Sundays result. And us being confident and optimistic on a message board won’t change Sundays result.

I actually think the early pre-season business has caused perhaps an over abundance of confidence and excitement. I don’t think that’s a bad thing. It’s a lovely place to be and it’s rare we get to be there as Sunderland fans.

but all that matters is results. On to Sunday!

before the poznan, Man U fans told us "to stand up for the champions", this was before full time at Eastlands, but that part of the story never gets mentioned. Some fans, including some of our fans said it was "sad" for doing it, what was really sad was the arrogance of a set of fans that had had their own way for 20 years. I done the poznan, Nothing to do with jealousy, but it was a middle finger to them.

You know exactly why it hasn’t happened yet and the course of events with several targets. It’s largely for reasons outside the club’s control so I’m not sure how you can bust their balls for it.

I was just saying the other day to one of the lads that a leauge 2 team will hit the jackpot and be taken over by a mega rich state. Wrexham done well with the Hollywood lads, but someone will end up next level.I still think it'll happen to us one day unfortunately.
