That fee for Simms is over the top in my opinion. One year left on his deal so shouldnt be anywhere above £3 for me. I cant see why Coventry are paying that sort of money at all, other than it is burning a hole in their pocket. I know there is a premium on English playes but that looks way over the odds to me. I would be confident if we wanted to spend £8m on a a striker we would find a better player. Simms is a decent finisher, instinctive, but he has a lot to improve on and I doubt he would have progressed much under Dyche since we last saw him.

Agree 7+mil for simms is too much based on what ive seen, but, like every player, he is worth whatever anyone is willing to pay. Goal scorers are worth their weight in gold. Whether he continues his current record, which is decent by anyone's standards, is another question, I suspect he will. Hes a player who contributes very little other than goals, just so happens goals are the most important factor in most matches.

Simms at 8 mil needs context.

70 mil in the last few years is now peanuts. McGuire, Anthony, sancho, fofana etc. In that world, 8 now will be 20 very soon.

However, Saudi money has come in. Fees will be up, wages through the roof. Potential, it it goes right, it becomes the place to be. If that's the case, our clubs could lose a ton of revenue, quickly.

So for me, stay well clear of big fees for the next few years, see how it all plays out. Get the academy in good shape and prioritise making money over short term glory

After Wigan, Bury, Derby, etc I think a little caution.should be tolerated tbh.

Ellis Simms has completed a permanent transfer to Coventry City for an undisclosed fee.

The 22-year-old striker joins the Championship club after six years with the Blues, progressing through the Club’s Academy to make his Men’s Senior Team debut against Chelsea in December
